Y-pipe question

I want to buy a y-pipe for my car. I have about 400 dollars saved. On ubrf.org, everybody is saying that the stillen, the cattman, and the budget y give all of the same performance upgrades. I'm not going to spend 395 on a stillen y if I can pick up a budget y for 150 with the same power increase. I am aware that the budget and the cattman are painted while the stillen is stainless steel. Is what they are saying true?

Just because its painted doesn't mean its not Stainless Steel. The Budget Pipe is T-304 Stainless and they paint it silver. Why? Not sure, I guess they think it looks better or will protect it even longer.

Goto www.budgetexhaut.com and look up their contact info. I have just installed the y-pipe, b-pipe and the hi flow cat that they carry. I was told that they were all stainless. I get it in the mail and find that they are all painted... I wondered why, then I found this site yesterday that gave a possible reason. found at http://www.warpspeedperformance.com/nissan.htm

-cut-n-paste-
100% made in Canada, not entirely made of 304 stainless as advertised. Now we know why they paint them. You get what you pay for.
-endpaste-

These guys are selling pipes for 200 too. Not too bad. But, if you are not into taking your max to high-end car shows, I would recommend the budget pipe.

Just to sweeten the deal, budget includes the price of shipping in the price. What's more, they also unclude gaskets, nuts and bolts needed to mount it.

I'll admit that one of the flanges on the b-pipe was a hair off and now I'm dealing with the midsection baging into the heatsheild under the rear seat. Oh well, everything else fits great though. I'm going to take the car into an exhasut shop and get it straightened out soon.

Later,
D

Re: Re: Re: Y-pipe question

Oh yeah, more thing about the paint....

Most of the paint on my pipes burned off in about an hour. So I don't know why they paint them either... other than to make it look cleaner. Be aware, these pipes stink while you are buring that paint off. The smell goes away after a couple runs around town though.

Later,
D

I have their B pipe and I have the same problem with the banging of the pipe with the heat sheild under the rear seat. I'm going to an exhaust shop tommorrow so it can be fixed

Some things to note:

1. Budget prices are in CAN dollars, so convert http://www.xe.com/ucc/
2. Budget shipping is included.
3. Y-pipes don't need resonators
4. All Y-pipes are going to perform the same (within 1-2hp), I've done back to back dynos of Warpspeed and Cattman.

I've had a warpspeed and currently have a cattman, but I'd still recommend budget. Just save yourself some money, they'll all perform the same.

I think that that statement on Warpspeed's site about the Budget pipes not being all stainless steel is crap. I think they are just bashing Budget to try an increase their sales.

They are just angry because Budget is taking away business and will stoop low enough to bash their products.

I was talking to Jeff who owns Budget Performance Exhaust one day and he told me that some guy came in with a Cattman flex joint to get replaced (under warranty from Cattman) and he did it for free, just to help out another Exhaust Company owner. Those are the stories I like to hear.

Yes they sure do and they even welded my EGT bung and another for wideband O2 for me for free too.

The have a 10 or 11 second Vette they race.

PS They also gave me a Budget T-Shirt which I am going to wear to the track on Sunday. Its black so it matches my hands which are dirty most of the time.

WOW - I've spent nearly $2k (ok, Canadian $ - so I guess it's not much...) in the past 6 months at Budget.

How much did you have to spend to get the free t-shirt???

Well I know they have the B-Pipe with or without resonator and the only other item is the muffler for a complete catback. There is a lot of choices as far as mufflers go so I am not sure if they are building and supplying their own or letting folks get the muffler of their choice, thats what I did.

Give them a call.
