EVAP system consists of a charcola canister and a valve. It is located behind the left rear tire. It's function is to allow your car to take gas fumes and recirculate them into the fuel system so you burn fuel more efficiently. Basically a component of emissions system.
There is a valve which opens and closes and recirculates gas fumes back into your fuel system.... fuel lines.
The canister can be removed and the valve can be removed. Often times cleaning the valve, which is located in front of the canister with several hoses connected to it, will correct the issue.
Mine is back on again and I think I may need to replace it.
Someone said there was a TSB for this from the dealer but I need to check the AllData website to see if I can find it.

Very informative Dave, thank you. Swafford the code is 0704. It is also throwing a 0215. Which has no meaning, so hopefully fixing the EVAP will erase both codes. To everyone else, thanks for the help.

Here are some things they told me I could do:
Remove the canister from the car, the EVAP Vent Control Valve is attached to the canister. Weigh it, it it weighs more than five lbs they recommned replacing the canister/valve.
They also told me that if the EVAP vent control valve is bad and your canister is heavy(lot of moisture in there).
There is a good chance that the Purge Volume Control Valve is bad too. This is the white valve which is locate in front of the canister towards the front of the car.
When I took apart the apparatus before, I had cleaned the PVCV. The EVAP VCV is attached to the canister, built in to the rear of it and cannot be taken apart for cleaning.
Nissan told me that these do go bad frequently and the best fix has been replacement.
They also recommended making sure the gas cap is placed firmly on the car after fueling.
Hope this helps as there is little or no info in the Haynes manual regarding this sytem.

There is also a valve in the engine compartment with a brown plastic end on one side..... It has an electrical connector with 6 wires in it..... It also has 2 half inch hoses connected to it. Its located on top of the intake manifold..... Its called a EVAP Canister Volume Control Valve... The part connected to the Canister on th underside of the car is the Vebt Control Valve... Im having similar problems with my car .....
