OH NO! I put 1.5 lug nuts on the car instead of 1.25!!
What should I do?! I jsut found out the car requires 12mm x 1.25 lug nuts! I put the front two wheels on with 12mm x 1.5 lug nuts!! Are the bolts stripped??? Do I have to get the 5 bolts replaced or can i just take the 1.5 lug nuts off and replace them with 1.25 lug nuts?? I don't want a wheel to fall off!

I took two off..
The front wheels both ahve all 5 of the incorrect nuts on. While i was putting the right rear wheel on, i realized I made the mistake. Actually my dad came home from an autoparts store with 4 of the right size nuts. i took one of the 5 incorrect nuts off the right rear wheel and tried putting one of the new proper size nuts on. it went on, but not by hand, I had to use the wrench to tighten it to 80ft/lbs. I then put the 4th wheel on, and used 5 of the old lug nuts and they went on all the way by hand. im convinced i destroyed the threads on teh studs of the wheels that i installed the incorrect nuts on. However, I can still (with some effort from teh wrench) put the correct nuts on. Should I replace the studs or what? How much $ am i looking at for a mechanic to do this?
thanks.
thanks.

I would just buy all the studs and nuts and replace them. How did you get them on anyways?

I'm guessing you've weakened the threads from putting on the 1.5 pitch nuts on. I think it's safer to get a new set of studs. I don't know what the risks are by leaving things as-is but if you like to corner hard, it's probably not worth the risk.
How come you had 1.5 pitch nuts? Do you have another Japanese car? My Acura 3.2TL takes 1.5.

I bought the wheels off ebay and the nuts the guy sent with the wheels were 1.5. i didnt think anything of it and just put them on. tightening them was really hard, but i was like 'oh this is normal'

And of course I left my Haynes manual in boston while I'm in NY. How do I replace the studs? I want to do it tomorrow or else im going to take it to a mechanic to do before sunday.

i dont have a maxima anymore and i replaced my studs on it over a year ago but here goes...
-jack car
-take wheel off
-unbolt and slide caliper off
-slide rotor off
then you will see the hub with the five lug studs sticking out. behind there is a thin piece of metal acting as a protective shield for behind the rotor. On that metal shield, there will be a small cut out(i think it's towards the top). Turn the hub so a lug stud lines up with the slot and hammer out. do it to all 5 then insert the new studs in. they probably wont slide all the way snug, but do the best you can.
-rotor back on
-bolt caliper back up
-put on wheels and correct lugs (when you do this, as you tight then lug nuts, it will pull the studs out till it is perfectly snug and to spec)
-done
the studs should be under $1 each at your local auto store. this is all from the top of my head. it is a pretty simple job and i dont think i have left anything out, but someone correct me if im wrong. good luck.

yeah, that sounds about right. Only thing i would do would be to check the torque on the studs after driving a few miles. the studs may need some time to seat properly so you may need to retighten the lug nuts another time.

Just happend to me like 2 months ago when i got my rims auto shop gave me wrong size locks and i stripped the nuts. I did everything he said the same but the install. What I did was juse use washers and a nut. Because the rotor is too heavy for the studs and it will allign the studs wrong.
