I am guessing it is only under heany load that this happens. The reason the Y-pipe has a flex section is because the pipe will shift like a bear in a cage when ever you get on the throttle hard. Jack your car up and look around the flex section, imagine that the Y-pipe needs an inch of clearance and bend everything out of the way that conflicts with this, good luck.

Wrap your y-pipe with a heat wrap, and do like he said, make sure there is good clearance. The heat wrap should eliminate the noise. You can wrap it while the pipe is on the car but it is much easier, and less frustrating, to do when it is off.

I used a 2.3 inch wrap on mine, my Dad wrapped it for me when after the pipe was installed on the car and he was swearing at it half the time. If we would have had an additional set of gaskets he would have pulled it off to wrap it. You have to wet the wrap when you put it on and it was dripping all over and difficult to hold in position while he put the clamps on.

I have never had a problem with rattling or buzzing with my Budget y-pipe since we put the wrap on.

Good luck.

i agree

I also think wrapping the Y will reduce the noise problems. www.motorvate.ca has a nice how-to on wrapping the Y pipe.
However, I've read that wrapping the Y pipe can cause the exhaust system to deteriorate quicker because of the increased temperatures...anyone have evidence to prove/disprove this?

cant say that ive had that on mine, but i do get a slight rattle vibration from what i believe is a heat shield. this noise is very slight however, especially compared to the rattle i have in my interior that i cannot find.

good luck

yeah i think i get it from the heat shield too.
the noise comes from the ypipe area instead of the muffler so it must be touching something when its shaking around under load.
