Colored Brake Pads???

well im about to buy a 95 maxima with 103k miles black on black leather 5spd.....
only 1 problem...when i brake it squealz like a pig!!!!

i checked it out to the best of my ability (17year old wannabe car tuner), and the car had PAINTED brake pads. I checked the pads and the paint was starting to chip off so i assumed the blue color wasent because of the material of the pads...

does everyone think the banchee screeching is coming from the pads? or something else??
its both the rear brake pads...

oh and when i had it checked out by a shop they said that chances are it wasent the painted pads, but it wasent anything really bad because the rotors and calipers were still in good condition..

Welcome to the wonderful world of the maxima...and the squealing, screeching brake noises that come with it.

First, I'm guessing that whoever owned the car previously painted not only the calipers but the whole brake system, pads and all, sweeeeeeeeeeet...and lazy.

Second, the squealing brakes thing is a huge annoyance for most maxima owners. The only way to cut down on it is to use ceramic or metallic-based brake pads. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong. They also sell some anti-noise lube that supposedly helps. I just put on Ceramix pads on the fronts and no noise yet. Hope this helps, good luck man.

Try to check the pad thickness. Sorry, I don't recall off the top of my head what the recommended min. thickness is. Anway, maybe they're almost toast. The inner pad on each side should have a "wear bar" (not sure if that's the proper name). Basically, when the pads are really worn down, this bar makes noise from rubbing agaist the rotor to let you know it's time to change your pads.

i think the wear indicator shows at about an 1/8 of an inch. So measure the pad. If there's 1/8 of an inch or less, you need new pads.

You might want to try spraying down the calipers/rotors/pads with a high-pressure hose. You may just have excess dust.

well first thing is....nothing else is painted...JUST the pads...

and i had the pads checked by a brake changer tech, he said both the front and back dont look to be too low and that i shouldnt need to change them for at least another 1/2 year...he could be wrong through...

they put on anti-screech stuff too and it still screeches only not as bad....
they guy im buying it from is changing the brakes tomorrow the rear colored ones and i told him to make sure the techs: turn the rotors, and use the anti-screech stuff...

ill let u guys know if it stops squeaking
