Anyone Running NO Relay on there VI ??

Anyone running with No relay with there Variable intake ??

I just took a run around town with my car and it didnt feel right so I pulled over and the light was blinking on the harlan...Meaning it fouled out so I shut my car and restarted it and now its fine..

one question is, should I add a relay onto it to make it fail less ?? Im not really electrically inclined so i dont know..

where does the relay go

From what I understood at first was that the relay was causing the harlan to flake out, so I didn't use a relay at first. But Pluco told me that not using a relay would cause the harlan to burn up, so I added one to it and have not had any problems, not that I had problems before but I did it for insurance. I would add a relay if I were you since yours is flaking out. Check Pluco's site for the write up.

You can get the Relay from radio shack. it goes between the harlan and the vacuum switch.

DON'T DO IT!!!!!!!!
I am telling you it will make the circuit fail. maybe not for a while but it will. This is a trasisterized circuit and it is not capable of handleing the load of the solenoid. Just read the instructions that come with the Harlen switch.

you need a 30 amp automotive relay. You might have better luck going to a parts store to find it. Then follow the wiring instructions found here http://www.cardomain.com/member_page...=287228&page=5

I haven't been running a relay since October of 02 and I'm constantly using my MEVI. I do have problems on occasion with the Harlan flaking out (pretty rare), but I had those same kinds of problems (actually much more often) when I was running a relay. Run it either way. I've spoken with Matt Harlan about the relays and he says it should be fine either way.

I've also got my MEVI wired up so I can manually engage it whenever I want. This comes in handy when I'm at the track and the Harlan flakes out. I can simply flip the switch open after I hit 5000rpms in 2nd and I leave it open the rest of the way thru 3rd. If you don't have the JWT ECU, then don't do this. You're RPMs will be too low (~4500rpms) on the 2-3 shift to be leaving the MEVI open.

Dave

Please tell me how the RPMs will be different. I dont think they are change by the ECU

Dave's redline is 7200rpm. He had JWT make it 7200 instead of the normal 7000. I also have no relay. No problems yet. I have a LED on my dash that tells me when the harlan goes off. My RPM switch is in the engine bay also.

They are changedonly by the ECU. His redline is 7K so he is at higher rpm's after the shift.

Further, my Harlan is powered straight off the battery. Been like that for six months now, and I've never noticed the VI not activate normally or flash after use. It just works every time without fail. I almost feel guilty.

Ejj seems to think it may work better if the switch is inside the car whcih is where mine is going.

No, Dave has a 7000rpm limiter. Nealoc187 has the 7200, and so do I once JWT sends my ECU to me.

I have 1 Harlan under the hood and 2 under the shifter panel, with no problems from any of them. It's safe to say you can place it where you like, but ideally inside the car will be much better for moisture, heat, etc. All you have to do is run 2 wires through the firewall, so consider that for the longevity of your Harlan.

I have the 7000rpm limiter.

On my WOT 7000rpm shifts with the ECU, I enter each gear 500rpms higher so:

1-2 ~4600rpms (4100rpms stock)
2-3 ~5100rpms (4600rpms stock)
3-4 ~5600rpms (5100rpms stock)

I you don't have the ECU, don't leave the MEVI open once you hit 5000rpms in 2nd because on you're 2-3 shift you'll drop to ~4400rpms which will create a bog (~15fwhp less power till 5200rpms) which will slow you down.
