is300 yellow fogs on max project
the is300 yellowness of the fogs come from pods or "condoms" that surrounds the 9006 bulb right inside teh fog housing right?.. my weekend project is gonna be to find some is300 owner who has taken out these pods for the superwhite foglight look and try find a way to install them in the max. if it is successful..ill see if i can make a write up for anyone who wants is300 looking yellow fogs. wish me luck..
Dude hell yea, let us know if you're successful. Yellow is the correct color for foglights, and it sure is hard to find decent yellow bulbs (although these Narvas are working pretty good so far...keep your fingers crossed).
You can get the yellowstar bulbs, and they also make a yellow glass paint which some members have used inside their fogs. It gives the Lexus yellow fog look.

doood.. madd dissapointed.. the yellow fogs on teh is300 comes from a painted yellow projector lense. they make it white by sanding the lense to get rid of the yellow tint or paint.so there is no pod or plastic piece they remove that they can sell me. suckss.. im working on a new yellow fog project with molding my own plastic to mount around hte h3 bulb..ill let you gusy know how that goes.

I bought 20 standard h3 bulbs for like $10 on eBay about a year ago. I thought I'd try the yellow high-temp stain, so I went down to my local art supply store. I painted the bulbs and baked them in the toaster oven. After a few days of drying, I decided to give them a go...no go. They looked great for about a minute (intense, bright, yellow), but after a minute, it started heating up and burning the coating on the bulb. I had a fog light looked like it had a fog machine inside of it
So I decided to just buy yellow H3's from autolamps-online.com
They had a buy 2 get 1 free special with free shipping. Philips All-weather bulbs came out to be like $6 per bulb. I've been using them for about a year with no problems.
UPDATE: AUTOLAMPS-ONLINE.COM IS HAVING THEIR SPECIAL AGAIN...BUY 2 BULBS AND GET THE 3RD FREE WITH FREE SHIPPING FROM THE UK.

Yeah... it's kinda stupid to have super/hyper/plasma/whatever fog lights, the whole point of them is visibility. White light just reflects off of water, totally defeating the purpose, I suppose you would gain some on dry ground however.

Looks like he has taken some of it down temporarily but this site used to have a whole bunch of diatribes about lighting and bulbs and stuff. I don't agree with everything he said but he did seem to know what he was talking about.
I just noticed that he is selling yellow 55w h3 bulbs on there. I might have to give them a try. If this guy is selling them I would bet that they are the correct color temperature and all that to *really* work in the fog...not just look yellow.
1st gen Lexus LS400s, and ES300s have yellow fog lights
Integras had them 2nd gen, Legends 1st gen (up until '91)
95-95 240SX SEs had them
I think they look sweet and drive with HIDs in the rain and... you'll think they're sweet too

I think it's photochopped (coloured, actually)...on the homepage, they're listed as HID H3's, modded foglight housing to accomodate the long bulbs.
PIAAs are only yellow from certain angles, whitish-ion from other angles. Not worth the cost, really, but probably the best bet as they do throw decent light onto the road. The best looking choice, however, is still to paint the reflectors themselves w/ a transparent yellow paint (import paint designed for parking light and lower wattage bulbs). Using the paint on the bulb itself, the H3, WILL burn off...or maybe even shatter the bulb.
