new info about air bag light for DIY'ers check it out
hey guys:
my airbag light has been flashing for about 3 weeks now, and it has been really annoying me. so i took it to my local shop. not too long ago i asked you guys how to reset the light and you guys said press the door switch 5 times and turn to on. well thats exactly that the dealer did!
Now, the reason why this reset proceedure works for some and not others is because of this: if you do not have a problem and for some reason the light just came on then the reset will work, and you light will go away. but if you actully do have a problem with the airbags then the light will not go away, but it will seem as the light blinks slower. it seems that way because it is! the airbag light is just like the ckeck engine light. depending in which order it blinks in it will tell you what exactly is wrong with your airbag system. now all the dealer has to do is study the airbag blinks, and match it up to his paper of codes.
i asked him if i could have the papers of all the diffrent codes but he said no.
but i am sure if you find out the code from you maxima and give a mechanic a call they would look up the problem for you.
i hope this helps someone... and if you guys already knew this info sorry for posting! ![Smilie](https://maxima.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)

This is the procedure for resetting the dashboard Air Bag warning light.
This information came from the '99 Maxima factory service manual.
Open the driver's door. Note the rubber covered button, a button which is
pressed by the door when the door is closed. This is the Driver's Door
Switch (DDS).
Turn the ignition from OFF to ON. Press the DDS at least 5 times within 7
seconds after turning the ignition switch ON. Turn the ignition OFF.
Close the driver's door. Start the engine.
Possible causes for this warning light to go on include...
- a fault with the Air Bag.
- abnormally low voltage in the electrical system due to a weak battery.
- a maladjusted door striker plate such that the door does not close properly,
and the DDS is jiggled on and off constantly as you drive.
If this reset procedure is not successful, or if the warning light returns,
there is a SRS system fault which should be handled by your dealer.
