Do this...

Measure how tall your current battery is. Then look up how tall whatever battery you're getting is. If your new battery is taller than your current battery, see if the j bolts that attach the tie-down to the tray are long enough to accomodate the height difference.

I don't think the yellow top optima battery is taller than the stock. I have one installed in my 4th gen and i had to measure how much to cut of the J-hook side and just rebend it. Make sure cut of just enough and still have some length left to make the J hook part.

If it is taller than you stock battery, check to make sure you have enough hood clearance then buy longer J hooks.

The Yellow top should fit just fine. I didn't have any trouble or have to modify any parts to get it to fit. Even if it was a bit taller, the battery hold down "J-hook" things have enought spare threads at the top to fit it in. It also fit into the battery tray with room to spare.

Hope this helps,

Man, My yellow top is heavy as shyt, you dont even need the battery tie down,it wont fit anyways. The optima is smaller than the stock, but if you are **** like that and want to tie it down, you can compare the size and cut a piece of wood to place it on... I think its like an 1.5 inches thick or 2... cant remember... but anyways whatever floats ya boat.

I just replaced my Sears Die Hard Gold with a Yellow Top. I added a piece of wood about 3/4" thick, thus making it the same height as the old Sears battery and making it fit perfectly with the J clamps.

You could always use washers to take up the space....or make a new brace out of Al that's thick enough to make up for the difference in hieght. That's what I did and it looks better too.

The optima battery is shorter than our stock battery.
