ECU swap question

I have a 96 Maxima SE..... Can I put a stock ECU from a 95-98 Maxima in my 96 without getting trouble codes?

Just curious about that.......

You can put one from a 96 for sure in, 95 probably, 97-99 - No.

Why would you want to swap ECU's unless you are doing a 5spd converison....?

I think my ECU is giving me problems.... I had been getting codes for the evaprative system..... Codes were 1008 and 0903...... I replaced almost all of the parts in the evaporative system including the hoses and gas cap...... Im still getting the same codes and on top of that, when I turn on the ignition, I have no CEL, but after I crank the car, the CEL comes on as soon as its cranked.... the CEL light is supposed to come on when you turn the ignition on....

All of that is keeping me from passing an emission test, and because of that, I cant register the car.....

Then the best thing for you to do would to take your current ECU out. (use one of those angled screwdriver/ratchet tools) and there is a sticker on top of the ECU.

On that is some numbers....match the numbers up to ECU's on car-part.com, and buy a new one.

I just got mine (5spd swap) for $100 - 97 MT SE ECU

Although 99% of the time if your ECU goes, it's completely dead.

I had a ton of codes when I swapped from Auto to 5spd.

Now the 5spd ECU is in - no codes.

The guy at the junkyard refused to warranty it because he said I was going to fry my electrical system....what does he know?

Possibly the sensors or wiring is damaged?
Yeah - I agree.

That's what I meant by "Although 99% of the time if your ECU goes, it's completely dead."

Maybe you just have bad grounding. Try one of those gorund wire kits, or make your own.

Is there a write-up on the whole ground wire kits or how to do it myself? I can fix alot of mechanical things, but I dont know much about electrical work though...

All the help here is greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone
