5spd Conversion Done!!!!

I finally did it. Took about 2.5 days to do the entire conversion. The job was long and time consuming, but the 5speed setup is sweet. In addition, I installed the Quafie, ATC street Clutch Kit, Fidenza Flywheel and B&M Short Throw Shifter. The car rips through all gears with ease. The acceleration is great. Very responsive when climbing up hills and around turns. I guess with the Lightweight Fly, faster acceleration is possible due to less rotational mass??? But I did notice the deceleration factor seems to be a bit quicker too.

The Quafie rocks! This differential was really worth the money. The unit keeps the car around turns tightly and aggressively. You really feel the power being transferred to the ground effectively.

Another thing to add, is, I had no idea the Autos rob so much power from the Motor… Even the front end handling is better with the 5spd. I guess the 5 speed tranny has better weight distribution than auto???

The only problem factor I have currently is my right axle seal. The seal seems to be leaking transmission oil. We replace the dam seal twice and the problem persists. We are going to change the Axle maybe the axle is bad some how? But the leak is small. Sometimes it leaks sometimes it don’t. Go figure???

For those org members considering to do the conversion, please do it! You won’t be disappointed!!!

If you guys had this seal problem and know what to do feedback would be great. I would search he info myself, but I guess the seach feature is not working. Thanks.

Good job man! The 5-speed compared to the autotragic is like night and day. It transforms a family sedan into a real deal sports sedan. By the way, be careful when shifting hard into 3rd with the ACT clutch because that's how I blew my tranny.

With a stick it truly is a different car. No "performance" car should have an auto.

Go to this site. http://www.hlh0501.com/5spdconversion.htm. And also have a good mechanic around. As far as parts,
go to www.car-part.com. All of my hardware cost me $900 including shipping. Thats Gear-box, Axels, flywheel, 5spd starter, pressure plate, throw-bearing, Cutch-disk, 5spd ecu, shift console, Shift-rods, Clutch pedal, and all screws and fittings..
