What does this Knock Sensor ??

Hey guys what does the Knock Sensor do?? and how do I change it I think I have never changed it since I have had my car.

it is located under the manifold. if you have small hands, you can get to it if not you can use a long extension with a swivel and install it. The bit*h is getting to it and the harness. My bro has done one in 15 mins but he has small hands and he got all scraped up

It detects knock caused by detonation and inturn retards timing.

All I know is that you can replace it with a resistor. They replaced the knock sensor on the 2.5l altima se-r engine with a 500k ohm reistor. The knock sensors on those cars are insanely sensitive...
