it doesn't make it much louder, if anything mine's a little deeper.... acceleration is quite a bit smoother... power gains, are maybe a few ponies, but i'm also running some double digit boost so factor that in...

i've heard two sides to this... some people say it can make a noticeable difference... ie: smoother acceleration, improved mpg, quicker et's... and some say its not worth it. just try it and see what you think. you can get one from budgetexhaust.com for cheap. the only thing is that it will set off your CEL... your rear O2 sensor will now read what your cat. isn't buring off... but as far as i know no harm will come from this. just make sure you don't throw away your cat. b/c you will need it for your state inspection.

I have one installed . The noise isnt too bad. Its a little deeper. As far as the cel going off its only for 95-95 models because their normally isnt a hole for the o2 sensor. 97-99 have the o2 sensor in the mid pipe. If you get a straight pipe just make sure it has the o2 sensor hole in itand you should be fine, no cel.

in a 97+ you will still get a CEL...atleast in marcdown's 97 it did (rear o2 code) and a test pipe won't give you anything close to a ypipe in hp gains... its just might smooth out your accel. and improve your mpg.

Don't do it. Don't kill our planet please. Street racing threads aren't allowed. Straight pipe threads shouldn't be allowed.

sexima... ?, do you have a ypipe? its kinda odd that you aren't getting a CEL... but maybe i'll be as fortuanate as you and not get one.

and i don't know about the rest of you, but i would only use mine on the track. or maybe on a long trip where i want better mpg.

They have this police lift thing here, they pull over riced out cars with it, lift up the back of your car and examine your exhaust system... No Cat is like $1000 fine... nothing to play around with....

my cars pretty much straight piped right now, buget y pipe to a hollow cat with apexi cat back, i dont think having an empty cat did much for me, wasnt really by choice and i cant afford a new one so i just hollowed it out, i can understand it being pretty loud if you have say like a greddy exhaust or stillen but it sounds pretty nice with the apexi, i do have a cel but more so because the o2 sensor isnt there anymore lol...but in my opinion for the small amount of gain its not really worth it and i acually seemed to have less low end....just my .02

good luck
later

I had my cat gutted before I installed my straight pipe and the gutted cat is a little louder then the straight pipe. Its because the exhaust gases bounce around in the cat before exiting. When I installed the straight pipe the car car seemed to idle a little smoother. Im thinking it was due to the fact that the exhaust exited more freely instead of bouncing around in the cat before exiting.
