power steering belt question
power steering belt question
I have a feeling that my car's belt that is running the power steering pump is slipping because every time I start the car when it was left overnight the steering is jurky for the first 15 seconds with a squeeling noise. The symptoms are more pronounced the colder it is outside. Can anyone tell me where the belt that runs the power steering pump is and how I can tighten it to test my theory.
Thanks in advance.
by the way, the car is a 95 GLE with 103K . I just did a tune up on it and replaced the air filter, fuel filter, spark plugs, and cleaned throttle body. Everything on the car is stock.
Thanks in advance.

Sorry in advance, but if you don't even know where the ps belt/pump is, you should not be attempting to adjust it. I would recommend you take a class in basic car mechanics so that you can at least recognize the basic mechanical parts of a car engine. Sorry for being blunt, but you need basic help that should be provided in person. Check your local vocational tech school for an evening class if you are truely interested in auto mechanics. This will get you started.
From the passenger wheelwell you can see the belt near the firewall. This belt is separate from the alternator/AC belt. There is a lock nut you must loosen and a separate adjustment bolt. Sometimes the pivot bolt from behind the P/S pump needs to be loosened too. This is not an easy thing to do. You may want to take it to a mechanic and change the belts (both) at the same time unless you've had them recently changed and the belt is simply loose.
