Clutch Release Arm Bearing failure?

I traced the weird sound I get at idle in netrual, clutch out.

Could someone try this for me and tell me if this is normal? With the engine running, shifter in neutral, clutch pedal out... Pop the hood and locate the release arm (under the factory intake snorkel). Reach in and touch the release arm lightly and feel for vibration. Put a little pressure on the release arm in various directions and see if it feels any different.

On mine, the release arm has a lot of vibration when I lightly touch it, but if I apply any pressure with my fingers the vibration goes away. I suspect the release arm bearing is failing. Will talk with the nissan dealer tonight...

The arm from the clutch slave cylinder pushes against the release fork. The fork pushes against the release bearing, which pushes the pressure plate fingers thus releasing the pressure from the clutch plate.

Understood. What I need to know right now is "Is the vibration normal?"

That vibration can be caused by a couple of things;

- Throwout bearing failing, causing play between input shaft and throwout bearing
- Input shaft bearing failure, allowing play in the input shaft

I've already decided that 103k on the factory clutch is a good innings, so it's time to replace it, so I'm resigned to replacing the clutch. Question is, do I also have to plan on replacing/rebuilding the tranny for a failed input shaft bearing? :-O

I have the same sound but mine started not too long ago when I had my new ACT clutch put it. I hope someone can answer what the problem is.
