power steering belt question quote:

I have a feeling that my car's belt that is running the power steering pump is slipping because every time I start the car when it was left overnight the steering is jurky for the first 15 seconds with a squeeling noise. The symptoms are more pronounced the colder it is outside. Can anyone tell me how I can adjust and maybe tighten the power steering belt.

Thanks in advance.
by the way, the car is a 95 GLE with 103K . I just did a tune up on it and replaced the air filter, fuel filter, spark plugs, and cleaned the throttle body. Everything on the car is stock.

try some belt dressing, but twist the belt and if it twists more than 90degrees, the belt is too loose, and the belt dressing might make it fly off the car, check the haynes at ur local pepboys,

Try tightening the power steering belt tensioner down, when you push in on the belt with your fingers it shouldnt have more then a 1/2 an inch play

first check the fluid level, is the fluid level ok? low level can cause that sound at the situation you described, especially when cold.
