If you want off the shelf parts you'll probably want Mobil 1 5W30 oil and a Mobil 1 filter.

I'm no nissan or even a maxima expert, but i'd stay away from those fram filters along with napa or pepboy filtres...I'd go with mobil 1 full synthetic oil wiht an oem filter. That's what I do on my toyota as well.

You people don't read do you He's trying to change his oil tonight, the dealer is closed, so he has to get his parts from Autozone or elsewhere.

s0ber: Walmart should have Mobil products, and if you're in a major city there should be a 24 hour Autozone or at least an Autozone open till 10pm.

NAPA filter ain't THAT bad. You'll find that the NAPA Gold filter is really a re-labelled Wix filter.

Oil and Filter
I've been using the Purolator "Pure One" oil filter. It got a very good write up from a guy who did an exhaustive test on a bunch of filters. Mobil 1 filter also came out very good, Fram was poor.

Oil choice: have used Mobil 1 both 5w and 10w 30 but have been concerned lately that Mobil 1 has actually switched from "pure" synthetic stocks. It's a great oil but just picked up some Penzoil 100% synthetic. Probably can't go wrong with Mobil 1; Penzoil Synthetic but I'd stay away from Castrol. Just my opinion.

Will probably try AMSOIL next but you have to think ahead on this one. Got to order it by the case I think. Worked it out once and it was actually cheaper to buy per quart even with the shipping than Mobil or Penz.
Cheers

Mobil 1 is still a PAO. Penzoil and Castrol are not.

You can order enough Amsoil for one oil change only if you'd like. Of course, buying by the case or 4 gallons at a time becomes more cost effective.

I have Quakerstate Synthetic in my engine right now..... Its decent oil.... I have tried Castrol Syntec, and I like it better..... Right now I have some Pennzoil Synthetic that I am going to put in sometime soon... I will let you know how good or bad it is..... I usually use a Nissan filter, but sometimes I get the Mobil 1 filter if I cant get OEM........ I have used Fram oil filters on some of the cars I have had in the past, and they have been crap.........

It's not a real synthetic any more and their own GTX posts better analysis results. The only synthetic oil worth buying at a place like Wal-Mart is Mobil 1. Have your friend pick that up or order an even better oil like Amsoil or Redline.

My mechanic bets his life on Valvoline Full Synthetic. Sounds good to me...
