Knock Sensor BS!!!????

Hey Org,
So i really need your help. I have to replace my knock sensor. My car keeps throwing the code after clearing the computer. I have a 97 max gle and i have a new ks but i can't get hte damn thing out. I have been trying to use a 1/4 inch extension and a wobble socket but i cant budge it. And i have really big hands so i can't get it underneath the intake manifold. How the hell do you do this without having to rip out the entire top of the engine. Also if you guys have any good links for writeups on it that would be great. i have already seent he one on motorvate.ca and it doesn't help me that much. but great website anyway frank. Does anyone have the writeup from the factory service manual they could send me. Thanks for the help yall.

Sam

Re: Knock Sensor BS!!!????

The skippynet article is good. I didn't have any trouble removing the KS bolt with a 3/8" ratchet wobble extension, and then pulled it out with the wiring. But I needed to borrow my wife's small hands to get it threaded back in.

Please be sure you return your wife's small hands as she may need them later in life
The knock sensor is just one of those things to keep fooling with. I didn't even get my hands in there (too big, too), just used ratchets and a magnetic pickup tool (works wonders to position the bolt). A friend with small hands would be convenient. Just don't tell him he'll end up with bloody stubs; let him find out himself.

I had trouble using a 1/4" ratchet and extension. I used a 1/4" socket and wobble adapter, a 4" extension, a 1/4" to 3/8" adapter, a 10" extension, and a 3/8" ratchet. It took a few tries, but the bolt came pretty easily. The 1/4" wobble is small enough to fit. The 3/8" wobble was too big. The 3/8" gives you more torque to loosen the bolt.
