All of a sudden the battery light and brake light came on. Turned on and off the car a few times doesnt make any sense
97 maxima gxe 48302 miles Has the alternator gone bad?

 

I'm pretty sure that when the brake and battery light come on, it means the alternator isn't supplying enough current OR the battery isn't being charged. In anycase, you have a 97 maxima, so you'll most likely be able to have recall work done. Nissan did a recall on maximas built in the 97 era. Take your car to a dealership and they'll check the VIN and let you know whether or not you can get the work done. If you can, they'll replace your alternator and it won't cost you a dime. Don't let them do anything else for $. Pay NOTHING =)

 

ok checked the alternator current by using a voltmeter when the car is not turned on battery shows 13.84 optima red top
when car is on it goes to 14.50 idle when brake is applied it goes to 14.4 it drops .1 for lights .1 for brakes also the brake pads are new so cant be the sensors (work done 8 months ago) unfortunately I am one of the few that does not qualify for a free alternator
