kept up with a new 330ci......

My brother was driving. Me in passenger seat and my 14year old brother in the back. We all weigh around 150. The guy in the BMW was alone.

Anyway, the 330ci was in front of us and my brother tailgating behind. The bimmer takes a turn onto a main road and nails it. My brother still in 2nd around the turn and guns it also from around 20mph. The bimmer didn't pull at all. my brother took it up to redline and granny shifted to 3rd(cause it ain't his car). Still same distance apart! No one was going anywhere!

My brother was very impressed with my car. And he drives 11 and 12 second dsm's everyday. He's owner of Broadway Performance in Passaic,NJ. www.broadwayperformance.com

Someone please post some specs on the new BMW 330ci. 1/4 mile, horsepower, 0-60...etc. Thanks.

I think the 330ci can hit under a 14.5 in the 1/4.

It possibly could have been an auto. But dont underestimate a RWD launch. RWD+traction control= wickedly fast 1/4 times times for a seemingly underpowered car. Cause Bimmers are kinda on the heavy side.

He should have taken you easily. Those 330i's are FAST. More shocking is the weight disadvantage you had. My guess is he wasn't WOT...

NObody launched. We were going from a 20mph roll after taking a fast turn. As I said, I didn't beat him. We were equal distance the whole time. Race got shut down around 5.5k in 3rd.

I found the specs:
225hp
214 lb ft

Anyone have actual 1/4 mile times?

I never said you launched from a dead stop. I was just responding to you when you said it was impossible for the 330Ci to run a 14.5. I was letting you know that a lot of that comes from it's launch. Car's that launch well don't necessarily do well on the highway. Just my $.02.

oh I got ya. thats very true. Like the WRX. It only runs low 14s cause its all wheel drive(and some torque.lol) But on the highway, a 5speed Max with i/y can hang with them. I know from experience!

I would say the guy did not know how to drive the BMW or he did not want it to race his new BMW!!! I know Maxima is fast but I raced a 330CI before and I could not Catch up with him he was 2 car away from me. I have automatic and he was automatic.

Here the Data Sheet on BMW 330 CI

http://www.bmwusa.com/site_layout/mo...3_techdata.cfm

Although in top Speed You could F u c k BMW 330ci, 330CI max out on 128 mile and maxima will go on 140 so you could take it around that speed.

ok, so if you lost to a 330ci with your auto, why is it just impossible for me hang with one if I have a 5speed with i/y?
I just don't get it. Is it just impossible that I hung with a 330ci.

And why wouldn't he go WOT???? I don't know anyone that doesn't go wot when racing.Do you?? And he definitely knew I was racing. My intake is really loud and his window was wide open. Come on guys. Give me(or my brother) a little bit of credit!

The reason why they're fast while being 'underpowered' is that the 330's 3.0L Inline 6 puts down nearly as much power as Nissans 3.5L 255HP VQ35DE... Don't believe me, check for yourself...

I beat my uncles 850Ci in the 0-60, and barely lost in the 1/4. But his top speed is 180MPH. Damn Dual throttle body V12s =/

BMWs may have more HP, but due to their damn near close 50/50 weight distribution they weigh a **** load.

Actually they only have 225 HP. Very similar output as the VQ30DE-K found in the 2000-2001 5th gen. They almost weigh 3300 hundred pounds. The real reason they are fast is their broad torque curve and their wicked launches. It's a known fact that BMW engines are overachievers and their cars seem to perform better than the HP and TQ numbers would indicate.

P.S. If you look closely I said "seemingly underpowered".

BMW is known for conservatively rating HP on it's vehicles. Just look at comparo's between G35 and 330i. They are neck and neck although you wouldn't have guessed it from the HP numbers.

I don't think he is BS. My friend has a 330ci 5spd and we race all the time. I consitently beat him when I am driving my car, and i can barely keep up to my own car when I am driving the 330.

rasta is right...
if you compare a 222hp max to a 225hp 330, and actually dyno them, you'll see that the wheel hp is much more on the bmw. they underrate their cars performance unlike nissan.

as mishmosh said, the 330 is more comparable to the vq35de.

not to be mag racing here, but autosite.com lists 1/4mi times for 330's from 14.5 to 15.8........

all I am trying to show by this that it's not every time some one says he had a good run with a better car it has to be BS and that person has to get jumped on......some beemers will loose to maximas and some will embarrass us.

Speed Limiter???

OK,
I keep hearing that the Maxima only does 140 MPH (224KMPH).
Is this because they are limited to this speed???
I've read Maxima information that lists the cars at 239KMPH.
My GXE is speed limited to 180kmph, but I'm going to put a switch in the wiring to temporarily eliminate that issue.
I'm wondering then if the SE and GLE are limited to 224kmph.....................

(i know the GXE is limited because of crapy stock tires...)

If anyone has concreat info, I'd love to see a link to it!

Thanks!!
dave h.

from what I read in the FAQ, the GXE is the only one with a limiter. The SE and GLE are only limited by HP and the amount of road.

I have a gxe and have driven it at 140mph so not all gxe's are limited.
