Yeah that is what I thought about doing. I wonder if I pack it with grease and caulk it up would it last.

To Hacim105: The Boot Holds the packed grease. When the boot splits the grease comes out and the joints are not lubricated thus ruining them.

2 options: 1)you could just get new axles from the autostore and replace them, wich sooner or later may need to do anyway. If they were open long time,it may be too late to repair them.
2)leave them the way they are.By just adding grease you will not extend their life. There is a big mess all over under your wheel well, and your rims. And if you just add grease, the mess will be even bigger.
Someone was asking in the tread if the boot is the same with CV. The boot is the rubber part that protects the Constant Velocity joint,so is part of the assembly ...

And If your thinking about replacing the joint yourself, here is some good advice on just how to do it!

Don't waste your money replacing the boots. The axles are probably ready for replacement anyway, or soon will be.

Buy cheaper remanufactured ones from auto parts, like AutoZone, for about $60 ea. Better ones from raxles.com will run $120 or so ea(they use new cv joints).

the axles aren't much more than the boots and are much easier to change. i personally wouldn't change the boots, just the axles. just my $.02

thanks, i got some great advise on the org tonight and it was much appreciated. im going to go with raxles and not bother with replacing the boots. you know when your in my boat and you are unsure if the cv joints were damaged then replacing the boots only might not be all that bad for a few dollars, but when we are talking about close to the same amount of money , it stinks ... ! again thanks, this puts me back a bit on my modding, but in a way its a mod !!

What's a sign of bad CV joints? When I make right hand turns at low speed, my front right wheel makes creaking/clunking sounds (like a rubbing joint almost) and when I brake, from 10mph to 0 the front right wheels makes the similar soun. I've checked my brakes and it's not them.
I've heard that Sprint springs can hurt the CV joint, do I need replacements, opinions?????
