I did surprisingly well against a mustang GT!!! How come??

i was toying with a yellow mustang GT (8 cyl.) on the highway going back home and he was toying back with me. i go fast then slow down, and then he flys by me and slows down and so forth. so we finaly came to a red light on a street and went for it. i heard him do a decent 2nd gear chirp and thats when i knew he was serious. we floored it untill about 90 mph and we both hit the brakes. but the odd thing was that he only had about 1 1/2 car lengths ahead of me. from what i could tell he was stock, and all i have is an fcp intake with a apexi dry filter.

i thought mustangs were faster then that? i mean he was definetly racing me for i could hear him redlining it. a couple more mods and maybe i could beat him! any thoughts or comments? i knew maximas are quick, but not that quick...

Yellow Mustang? It must have been the older 94-95 5.0 which was good for lower 15s at around 92mph. The 94-98 Mustang GTs were not terribly quick cars.

Mustangs are over rated, but yes, your car is fast as hell for a 4 door family sedan

I beat a new 6cyl mustang today in my 03 escalade. It was loud as hell, maybe it was even a v8 but I kept even with it all the way to 70 and then had to slow down. I was amazed.

I beat one at the track.

He pulled up beside me, rolled his window down, pointed at me, and pulled into the staging lanes. Though he ran a 14.8 to my 15.1. I beat him off the line and crossed the line first. It was great. I didn't see him again for the rest of the night. It was a '96? 4.6 with a big SALEEN sticker on the windshield and a "Come an getcha some!" sticker on the rear window.

94-2k3 all have dual exhaust and GT logo. if it was truly a 99+ than it must have been auto, because the 5speed are good for very very low 14's. but 5speed 94-98 are good for low 15's high 14's. it was more than likely 94-98, but anything is possible.

my friend just got a 96GT 5speed with CAI, i think i am racing him later this week at an airport strip. we will see what happens

Pretty damn good for an auto with no major mods.

Wow!! Those are impressive WHP for an auto. All the bolt-ons?

I would like to think he can tell the difference between the exhausts notes of the GT and 6 cyl. And between auto and 5-speed for that matter.

It couldve been a 5speed, anyone ever think of a bad driver?! A bad driver can make a 13sec car run a 15. Hell, my first run at the track in my max was a 15.8, got it down to a 14.9 with practice, and theres still room for improvement..
