When I start my car in the morning or when the engine is cold, the idle speed of my car is about 1500 RPM. After I drive the car like more than 100 feet, then idel speed returns to normal. Anyone have any idea why the car does this?

Yeah, that's normal. That's the car's way of warming-up the cats a little faster for better emissions control.

all cars do this. It is recommended(by me atleast) to let your car warm up a little before driving it after it's been at rest for a while. Never rev your engine when it's cold, the oil hasn't had a chance to lubricate all the engine parts yet.

amixam69, when you start your Maxima when the engine's cold, doesn't it idle at a little over 1000rpm and then drop down to 500-700rpm after a minute or two? That's what my Maxima has always done.
