I know, I know. Most of the time the question is the opposite. But I'll be handing down my Max to my mom, and she can't drive stick. I'll probably be jumping into a 2004 Max or a Murano. Anyway, I was wondering what the average cost and complications are that come with changing a transmission from manual to automatic. I have a 96 SE. I'd trade it in and get her a new car but I really dont wanna trade in the Max. Thanks.

HMMMM. See if someone wants to trade with you. A lot of auto owners would love to get their hands on a 5 spd Max without doing conversion, or buying a new one. Give that a shot

Yes I'd bet you could get the entire thing done for free. Just swap out with an auto owner who wants a 5spd and make him pay for both swaps. Only disadvantage would be that his tranny could be rotten.

Eh, you could just teach her to drive stick, it couldn't take more than a week to get proficient.
