What is an Altezza Taillight ?
What is an Altezza Taillight ?
I am trying to buy a replacement right rear tail light for my 97 SE to replace a damaged one.
Ebay has a ton of "Altezza" light for sale.
What are they ?
Are they legal in Virginia ?
Any info would be great
Thanks

Yes, they are legal, altezzas are what you see on 99% of civcs and integras. Its a light that normally has a chrome housing, however they come in gunmetal, black, carbon and body color. The usually have LED lights in them, and most of the time the lights themselves look nothing like the stock lights. Sorta like the lights on the stock '02-'03 Max/altima as well as the IS300/RX300/RX330, etc etc, those are all "altezza" style lights...

Actually some Altezza's arent legal, APC just got fined by the DOT because many of the Altezzas they produced didn't have the correct reflectors in them. If you want to stay legal, I believe the Generation II's are fine, they look better as well. Surely one of those auctions has a picture.

(sorry, I had to point it out, being a g2 altezza fan)
Re: What is an Altezza Taillight ?
If you are really itching for a new look, go ahead and consider Altezzas. Otherwise, don't bother. They aren't as well made as OEM (I'd ditch mine for clear/reds if available). The insides can actually separate a little in extreme heat (at least the 1st generation has). You can get OEM taillights pretty cheaply at a junk yard or even on e-Bay. Or, go to CustomMaxima and you can get modified OEM ones that have the amber lens removed (you use an amber bulb instead, giving a more trendy look).
you have a 97, forget Altezzas, and search for how to make red/clears for your year (97, 98, 99), or there are some for sale all the time in the FOR SALE section on the site, or as above mentioned CustomMaxima.com sells them..and there are also people here on the org that sell them
