Thinking about GC-Coilover Setup ?? Help !!

alright I went from sprints, not a bad ride at all, to eibachs, even better of a ride, both on AGX's, and now I want something lower but being adjustable would be awsome and I kinda dont wanna go back to Sprints...I need some feedback if I should go with a GC-Koni Setup ?? I do most town to town driving with some trips here and there and being slammed would be hot...I dont go to the city with my car ever but NJ town roads arent the best...I dont want too harsh of a ride but Im pretty tolerant to a bad ride...

I know Neal has them on his car and he even delivers Pizza and is fine...please get back to me, any feedback is appreciated

If dont mind a hard rough ride then get the GC's. I know I would rather sacrifice comfort for performance and I thought the GC's were worth while. Now I am upgrading to JIC's.

Matt is slowly catching up to me, having more suspension combinations in his car then I and within a smaller time frame.

Where's a cookie when ya need one.

I commute 100+ NJ miles a day on GCs with AGXs and I don't mind the ride. It is harsh but I'm well use to it now and don't mind at all.

How long have you had them on for ??

How do you know where to set the GC to what height ? Do you raise them up in the winter ?

If you really want to be low and not hit the bumpstops all the time (translation: have a rough ride) then JICs or Progress/Cattman are your best bet. The reasoning behind that is the shock height in addition to the spring collar height is adjustable on those two, which is something that's not avaliable on the GC/Koni setup, which lets you control where the end of your shocks is.

GC are probably good till about 2", maybe a little more if you really don't mind that bouncy bumpstoppy ride. But definately with GC, Konis are the way to go.

I put just under 10,000 miles on them. I've fooled around with the settings here and there. I've never "slammed" the car. I raised them about a 1/2 an inch in Winter, but thats it. I'll never have the time, but I'd be more than happy to give you a ride in the car so you can feel for your self...

GC uses Eibach springs and you can specify what spring rates you want when you order. Just make sure you order directly or from someone who says they can order in different spring rates. I have no idea what the stock spring rates on the GC are, but maybe do some searching. IMO the lower your car the stiffer your rates should be so your suspension isnt compressing over bumps and hitting your front end or other parts.

Id say stick with your AGX and get the GC. They are the best "coilover" springs you can buy in the market. You wont have a bumpstop type ride as long as the ammount your lowering your car is matched with your shocks, this is where the advantages of a true coilover system have a huge advantage and a smoother ride dispite the high springs rates. AGX IIRC are setup for aprox 1.5" shorter then stock stroke design. You should be fine with the AGX but when I had my AGX they lost there quiality after a year or so. Donno if AGX are rebuildable or not, Koni are and would be a better match for your GC coils. But again, get the GC and stick with your AGX, if you dont like them then get the Koni's.

Im just afraid they will be too stiff...I was riding on Sprint for a while with NO problem and Eibachs now with NO problem...I think they will be fine

Well, I have had GC and Stock shock for the past 4 mths and I don't have any problems with the combo, my car is probably about 2.25 in the front and about 1.75 in the back.
To tell you the honest truth, the damn things feel like stock until you hit potholes or uneven patches in the road and then you WILL feel it. I have gotten used to those moments though.
Got mine throuh nopi which has different spring rates for the different shock combo.

what reply are you looking for? experiences? advice?

I say if you want the drop, go GC's...
I have them on stock shocks for about 1.5 months now...at about a 1.5" drop.
the handling is very good, car remains level throughout turns...however the ride does get somewhat harsh on poor quality roads.

if you can bare the rough ride on crap roads, then you can enjoy the adjustable drop and excellent handling.

also take into consideration that we're both on stock shocks which suck...kyb agx or koni's would be a much better match.

Any coilovers will not ride like springs...stiff and very bad of a ride, but it allows u to do what spring wont...adjust up and down.

--> 97 Max w/ GC coilovers w/Tokicos...VERY UNHAPPY. i feel like a rollercoaster when i ride.

The thing with springs is I had Sprints, and alot of .org's dont like them and think they ride bad, I think they dont...So my take on GC are that I think I'll be able to hadle them due to my experience with Eibach and Sprints
