painting door posts

i know this really isnt the proper section of the forum for this question but i went to 'detailing' and theres nobody there! i kinda need an answer fast. i went to a local paint shop to see if they can paint my black door posts to match the rest only to find out its a stick-on black decal that you can peel off. ive seen a lot of guys at cardomain.com with this mod and since a lot of them are here i figured id ask. the guy at the paint shop told me it wouldnt be a good idea to paint over the decal, so now im thinking whats the best way to peel it without messing up the paint underneath? if you can give me some pointers or a link id really appreciate it. im new to this forum so im just learning my way around. thanks.

It's just a vinyl sticker, you can heat it up a little with a hair drier and you can peel it off slowly. Then you can use goo gone or something else to clean of the residue.

It should be painted body color underneath. Get rid of the glue and it will be as good as freshly painted

yep

i did mine as well

but not the greatest job as i grew impatient and used a razor blade to pick the ends of the vinyl stick on from underneath the rubber molding on the doors, causing a few scratches but nothing that can't be buffed out

it's a nice little freebie mod. I think it's worth it.

i beg to differ, darker colored cars you are just going from black to another dark color, sometimes cant notice from a distance, but lighter on the other hand...

what should we do after removing the vinyl tape? a few coats of wax and that's it? I'm thinking of doing this soon so I need to know.

id put wax there since that area had never seen the light of day before. dont need razorblades at all. just peel it off slowly and carfully and you shouldnt have a problem. heres a tip for you: loosen the screw holding the chrome molding that wraps around the window, both on top and on the bottom, just enough that theres a small gap. that way you will get all the decal off and it wont rip when you get to those areas. neat and clean is the way to go.
