I saw the ad for the g-tech thing yesterday in sportcompact car. I also noticed that some of you have the g-tech. What all does it do. How does it work. Do you have to put like the weight of you car in stuff like that.

Gtech seems pretty accurate on 0-60 and 1/4 but it's high on trap speed by ~5mph.

Stillen was selling em for $129

THe reason why the G-tech >>>>>>

has a higher MPH at the end of the 1/4 mile is that on the track the timing lights and timer measure your AVERAGE speed I believe at the last 60 feet, where as the G-tech measures your TOP speed at the END of the 1/4 mile that is why the speed with the G-tech is higher. The times between both should be within 2-3 tenths of a sec.

Also another reason why the G-tech time >>>>

is off by a few tenths is that the G-tech and other similar devices start measuring the instant your car moves forward whereas in the track your wheels have to cross a light beam to trigger the timing which is a foot or so a way from the wheel.

When Car and Driver, Road and Track and other car magazines do their track testing on cars do they use the G-tech?

Most car magazines do not >>>>>

use the G-tech, what they use is more sophisticated, like a 5th wheel testing device with about 30 pounds of computer stuff. Now I know that a few years ago MOTORWEEK on television used to use a VERICOM PERFORMANCE COMPUTER which I have and is very similar to the G-tech to do their testings.

This thing ...

sounds like a worthwhile add on for its price. all we have heard are good things, are there really any negatives to the G-tech?

EXCELLENT produce! very good for charting gains of performance products. The key is to always test on the same road that is level with no wind and the same amount of gas and cargo setup etc... take 5 runs drop the slowest and average the times for your true time. I do this and find times to be about .06sec faster than the strip and quarter mile times about 2 miles per hour faster than the strip.

I want to get one eventually..

I used my friends once (put in the weight wrong) but with my 96 auto, I ran with just intake 0-60 in about 7.2 seconds... didn't do 1/4 though...
I think it's nice...
