Run in with a Dodge Stealth

I was sitting at a red light and this black Stealth comes up next to me. I look at see the 24V DOHC sticker on the side window. Couldn't tell if it was a TT or not. The guy's hand was down by the shifter all the time, suggesting that it was probably stick.
Well we both kept moving up inch by inch waiting for the light to turn. The light turns green, and I launch forward to see that he isn't trying. So I am sitting at 4,000 rpm in 1st and looking in the side mirror to see that he is flying up on the side of me.
So right about when he is passing me I floor it and hear that beautiful Injen CAI at work
So we went from about 20-80 and he took me by about 1 car length. Keep in mind that he was passing me when I floored it so he had a speed advantage.
I always thought Stealths and 3000GTs were faster than that. Has anyone else had a similar experience?

That's what I thought. Originally I thought it was a TT and was just curious to see how far away he was at 60mph or so. When I saw how well I was doing against it, I knew it wasn't a Twin Turbo.

Now that I looked for the info, here it is.

Each Stealth model had a variant of the 3.0-liter V6 engine. A 164-horsepower, overhead-cam V6 went into base models. The ES and R/T got a dual overhead-cam rendition, rated at 222 horsepower. In turbocharged form for the R/T Turbo, the V6 put out 300 horsepower (320 after 1993). A 5-speed manual transmission was standard, but the R/T Turbo switched to a 6-speed unit in '94. Any Stealth except the R/T Turbo could have a 4-speed automatic.

It must have been the RT non turbo.

Well, that is a coincidence, because today on the way home from work I came to an intersection where I turn right and a 3000 GT with a VR4 badge turns left in front of me coming from the opposite direction. He's driving real aggressively so I turn in right behind him and floor it right at the same time he does. Well, like a doofus I didn't downshift so I'm in third at about 3000 rpm and he proceeds to leave me. I can hear his turbos whining. I quickly downshift to second and get into my powerband and stop losing ground on him as we enter a freeway onramp. I might have even gained on him a little. Eventually he loses me in traffic because I have no desire to race in traffic. I bet he was pretty surprised to see a Maxima hanging with him, heh heh.

a similar experience took place the other day with myself and a WRX, but the guy had his kids in the car so he wasn't REALLY trying so I beat him, but I'm sure with that cars stock 227 horsepower turbocharged engine it could beat me, even though it only has a 4 cylinder. God those WRX's sound so good with the engines wound out...
