dead suspension horse ....

I'm ready to get rid of my front KYB AGX , they are just to stiff when coupled with H&R springs, now I have the dilema which struts should i use : either Tokico blues or KYB GR2.
I'm looking for nice and soft comfy ride.
Did search and lot's of people are saying that Tokicos are no good,
and KYB GR2 are like AGX's set at 2

BTW I'm on stock SE wheels

bump !!!

I just drove over 50 miles on really bad and rough roads , and i had my front AGX dialed at 3 - it was stiff and tight - but tooo stiff !!!

than I drove 10 miles with KYB dialed at 1 and that was horror experience, than I dialed them to 2 - things got better , but very slappy and rough.

fianlly i turned them back up to 3 - and got home

I will give those Tokicos a chance , but if i don't like them
I'm getting new car....

If I could do it all over again, I would go Illumina + Sprint.

ok dude , I do not usually do replys , but on things that I am certain on I will talk about . First , I have to say AGX are excellent shock absorbers. I have them and for a year now, they are still feeling like NEW! Now to inform you that I am using Eibach springs and setting my suspension to 2/6 have given me such an excellent ride with very predictable handling. People who ride in my car are usually unaware of it being lowered . There is a org. member that lives arround forrest park in Queens who have ridden in my car . He was surprised with the ride quality and the handling. I do not know about H&R , but my A-- rides on Eibach and it loves it.

thanks for the replay

I think when we drive our cars for a while we get used to how they handle and behave - what might be rough and unconfortable for me , might be nice and firm for somebody else.
The point here is that when you drive in different car , and than you get back into your maxima - things are not that nice anymore.
I just drove my friends 95 BMW 740iL with over 120K miles on it , bone stock, that thing handled and droved like a dream , than I drove an 95 ford escort LX station wagon 5 speed - and ride sucked really bad - but atleast i didn't have to worry about every little bump and road imperfection.
that's what happens for most of the time when I drive my maxima - I concentrate on the road imperfections way to much , and now i'm on the quest to find the right setup that will yeald just the ride i want - simple trial and error already tried few things and it's time to move on - KYB AGX and H&R springs are simply not that set up

I'd say you'd be better off with some Tokico Illuminas or Koni Yellows. Only the AGX and GR-2s seem to ride harsh:

Its been about month now, Since I got my AGX struts... When It was installed. I had the setting on 2/1 and drove the car like that for 2 weeks. I came on Maxima.org and saw a post about AGX struts, some guy mentioned that to put the settings on 3/7. I was like let me give it a shot since the car was very stiff and it hit any small thing on the road I felt it. I turn it to 3/7 and drove the car for another two weeks. It was big difference the car is much smoother and you can't feel any small pot hole on the road. Its like night and day. you should try that setting....

ben there , done that

already tried all the settings , 3/6 is ok but only when the temp outside is in 90's , when it gets cold things get very rough

I will give blue Tokicos a chance , if that doesn't help - I will pull out the stock springs form the closet and buy some used OEM struts - than trade the car for something like 5 series BMW i always wanted.

Thanks guys !!!!

I really love my Maxima - but I just can't stand how she rides now !!!!!

Then I guess you want to try tokico Blues, but I think they are similar to AGX... but any how if you want to buy the OEM struts I have both fronts for sale. I had them changed before I installed the Agx struts. I have API warranty which covers the struts. my left side strut got blown out, they changed both of them. Those struts got only 1000 miles on them. I have all the paper works. And price for both is $130 You need to pay for the S&H just give me an email Esoheil@eminem.com thanks....

Just an idea, but are your front bump stops cut? It made a noticeable difference after I cut mine..

I agree with you Nick. Apparently temperture does have a lot to do with ride quality , when dealing with AGX . During the cold winter days I could feel all the bumps on the road , but once the temperture increased , so does the ride quality. I am sure of this because we had many cold spring days and abrupt warm days to follow(in NYC). This observation is not a placebo effect ; to those who will flame.
Thanks for reading my following reply, and do inform us when you find that perfect combination of ride quality and unsurpassd handling.

thanks guys for the inputs

yes, the bump stops were trimmed along with the replacement of every suspension part posible - I pretty much went to the dealer , he pulled up the front strut assembly on his computer and I bought every piece brand new : new mounts, bearings , isulators, etc
for nice price of $350 including 15% military discount.
so pretty much there isn't thing I have left over , or didn't try
I even removed the RSB to see if it had anything to do with ride harshness - sure things got a bit better in the rear , than I took some tension of the front FSTB and things also got bit better, but the front struts are flat out to stiff - period.

thanks again

try tokico illumnas or koni yellows... I hear they are very different from AGXs.. Another thing, H&R springs might be too soft for your AGXs, so instead of trying different struts, you might want to try to change to different springs, Eibach maybe?

I was pretty ****ed off at first because my B+G/AGX combo was kind of rough. Basically i've learned to deal with it, any aftermarket suspension with a drop will result in a firmer ride.

My stock suspension is blown and it's bouncy as hell in the messed up Chicago roads. My dad is willing to pay for a cheap new suspension so I'll pay the difference for a suspension that I can afford. Since I'm broke, I'll probably be getting GR2's and I'll deal with them until I can afford some Illumnas next year.

BTW, GR2's are like 2/4 setting on your AGX (http://drewm.dyndns.org/~drew/maxfaq...KybAgxSettings)
