H&R's need a camber kit!

[Story] I put my H&R/AGX set-up on sometime in March. I paid attention to tire wear for the first month or so and noticed no uneven wear. So I just stopped paying attention. Last night I happened to park my car with the wheels turned so the tread could be seen easily. To my suprise, a friend of mine started howling at my tire wear. I got out and inspected them. I have about 4-5/32" of tread on the outer part of the front tires and the inner sides have steel wires exposed. NOT GOOD! [/End of story]

I read from several people that you don't need a camber kit with H&R's. Well, you do!

So now I'm in the hole $37 for a camber kit + $683 for some new Potenza 750's. Mind you, this is without any installation, mounting & balancing, or the follow-up allignment.

Moral of the story. Spend the initial $37 and get a damn camber kit. Don't be like me.

Did you get a alignment job a few weeks after you lowered it? That's probably what did it. Toe-out can kill tires too. Your camber is probably fine.

I have eibachs and my tires wear perfectly even.

I've had H&Rs for well over one year and haven't had any of the problems you've described. When I take a part my suspension, I mark where the struts/hardware lined up prior to disassembling so that when it goes back togehter everything is set the way it orginally was.

To me, it sounds like your suspension had a "toe" problem like Drewn said.

When you lower your car, your toe goes outwards.

Toe out = lots of inner tire ware.

Rotate your tires and then have your car aligned.

EDIT:

I find it hard to believe that guys change there entire suspension and never have there alignment reset. It's like boiling water for tea and never putting the tea bag in.

I have ground control, my front tires has uneven wear. Do I need camber kit or just get a toe alignment?

thanks.

I installed my intrax got an alignment a month later. Eight months later cut the front springs never got an alignment and I definitely dont need no camber kit. I do Rotate my tires for even wear. For HR's, Eibachs, Intrax you dont need no camber kit. If you do is because the car has been in a very bad accident or you just dont a have a clue whats going on with your suspension. Sprint springs majority get away with an alignment and very few may need the camber kit.

I never got an allignment

I drove it on the interstate at 80 mph and let go of the wheel and it would track perfectly straight for miles. I assumed that if it went straight I didn't need an allignment.

Yes, I now realize that it was a stupid thing to do, errr...I mean, to not do.

Is it the same if I have coilovers? Jay25 stated that Eibachs are one of the few springs that do NOT require camber kit. Since Ground Control coilovers use eibach springs, am i required one?

i think it just depends on how low you go. the lower you go the more chance you'll need a camber kit.

if you think you can get away with GCs and no camber adjustment go ahead. I never said anything about coilovers

the thing is, is it necessary to get a camber kit since he has a groundcontrol setup?

with ground controls or any type of drop below 2 inches on the drop you will need camber adjustment with bolts or camber plates and some of the high end expensive coilovers already have camber plates built into them
