Cracked windshield with no apparent cause??

OK, so a couple mornings ago, I got into my car and I noticed a crack starting at the base of the passenger side, about 10 inches long by the wiper arm spreading to drivers side. Anyone else ever have this? It's the orginal Nissan windshield so it's not a replacement that cracked. I haven't done anything unusal with the car...no top speed runs, no extreme cornering...just the day-to-day grind of commuting. Speaking of replacements, anyone know of good ones? On previous cars, the replacements seem cheap...sprayed on darkening band on the top that fades quickly, etc.

a rock from the road probably flew up and struck your window, thats what happened to me and i got a crack going, but you can go to a windshield place and get the crack to stop if its not too bad

If there is no rock damage,I d reccomand to check with Nissan. And the reason is that is not unheard of having winshield damage due to structural stress. It usually starts from the bottom corners.I would sugest to look at the crack very close, and if you won t see any tiny damage created by a rock, try your luck with Nissan. Also,if replacement is needed, remember that many insurance companies offer full glass coverage.Check your policy and see what you got. I would say that the cost for a windshield for our cars, could be $ 400 or more. Good luck.

did you wash it when the window was hot ? Cold water on part of a hot windshield would cause the glass to crack.

i am currently living in arkansas... i know...hahahahah... and it gets pretty hot down here. i've noticed a lot of people don't realize that if you keep ur windows up all the way, and don't crack them in real hot weather, not only can it crack ur window, but the hole ^&%$in' thing can explode out of the front of ur car!!!!!!!! believe it. that happened to a friend of mine. another friend's side window blew out...!!!! in ur situation, i would go with the idea that a rock may have started a small crack and you may not have noticed it right away... seriously though, watch out for heat... it can and will make it worse!

Maybe your subs need to be just slightly turned down.

thanks for all the thoughts...It has been on the warm side with chances of rain so I've had the windows up...normally I have them cracked open. Might have been a contributing factor cuz after I looked, I didn't see any stone chips or anything suspicious. Black interior probably doesn't help either.

black does tend to absorb the wavelengths in light... as white will reflect it... i have some 10% black jaguar tint, and that seems to help

That is exactly where the last crack in my windshield started. I've had 4 windshields in this car in the last 2.5 years that I've owned it. You can get them for about $180 installed. Who the heck told you $600 good lord. 2 of the 4 times it cracked I knew what caused it, 2 of the 4, including this last time, I have absolutely no clue. Mine has small 2-3 inch cracks in the bottom corners of the windshield.
