Stiffness depends on valving and dampening fluid viscosity. Performnce (higher rate) springs stress a shock/strut, because it tries to move it faster and that generates heat. So how long a shock/strut lasts under the greater load depends on the quality of the shock: seals, finish, tolerances, fluid quallity and volume.

If you ride an SE vs. GXE/GLE back to back with identical wheel combos, there is hardly any difference. In fact, Edmunds tested two 2k Maximas, a GXE and an SE, and the GXE actually outslalomed the SE.
As for shocks, stock shocks, whether on GXE or SE, are inadequate at damping the increased strain that lowering springs impose on the suspension system. It is advisable that if you do lower your car, get the shocks changed at the same time to save installation costs.
