Bearing? Rear main seal? Both?

My transmission died and it's leaking black fluid from where the bellhousing meets the block. This fluid smells like gear oil, but looks like burned motor oil.

I'm pretty sure this leak is coming from the bellhousing. When the differential bearing goes, does it leak from the differential portion of the tranny, or the bellhousing->block?

If you differntial bearings are bad it will leak at the drive axel seal.
