99 SE 5spd -vs- 96 SE Auto

So my friend (Tim96SE) finally got his warpspeed Y-pipe on, so i finally decided to race him, since hes been talking so much smack ...

Specs: (me)
-99 SE 5sp
-Budget Y
-Homemade Intake
-Dynomax dual exhuast
-my girl as my passenger
-15inch steelies

(tim)
-96 SE Auto
-Warpspeed Y
-Homemade Intake
-Maganflow Street Series exhuast
-friend as passenger
-16inch stockers

First race: 40mph roll
-Of course i take him, pull about a car or so before we had to stop...

Second Race : 50mph roll
-Pull him again, though not as much (50mph is horrible for a 5spd max)

Third Race : From a stop
-We pull up to a light, and i spin alllllllllll through first but im still pulling, shift into second and i maintain my lead of barely a half car...

Fourth Race : From a stop...again
-figured since i spun, we should race a again, so we do, he gets the jump at about a car, i pull back up to him and pass him by about a half car or so...

Fifth Race : 60mph roll
-This has to be the autos dream and the 5spd's nightmare, i swear. Im in 3rd gear as we take off, the auto definately pulled just a tad until i reached the top of third where i started to pull, then oddly at the top of fourth for me the auto comes back to life and starts inching its way. I shift into 5th and we stay dead *** even, his nose at my door till about 130mph...

Just figured everyone would like to see that on a highway roll, the auto max is no slower than a 5sp with the same mods. They just cant touch the 5sp in 1st-2nd-3rd. I was actually impressed. Figured id share with all you fellow Org'ers...

Opinions/comments...

Something is SERIOUSLY wrong with your car now Erica. Your y-pipe is leaking for sure, it doesn't make that shreeking noise when you revv for nothin'. You should have destroyed Tiny Tim. But I guess a full car length lead from 40mph could be like .4 seconds....

Get your y-pipe fixed and race him from a 5mph roll in first and wipe the floor with him.

well, from a roll, the tranny doesnt make that much of a difference, its power that makes a difference. And at the right mph, it favors the taller auto gears versus the 5spd gears. I would definately have no problem taking him off the line through every gear from a dead stop. And yes, a car by just one gear would definately translate into like .4-.5 seconds in the 1/4 jerky...

And the ypipe is fine, trsut me its been inspected and i dont know why it makes that raspy, more metallic like noise. I also have an exhuast leak that needs fixing (not related) so i still have a few things to check over. Oh, and my knock sensor also has to be checked.

So I guess when I beat you by 3 cars to 100mph when I was at 7psi was normal, dispite the slow boost build-up.

50mph is indeed a horrible speed for 5spd Maxima's. Too fast for second gear, too slow for third. But your always going to be putting more power down to the ground then him, 5spds are ~7-9% more efficient then auto's.

you were deifnately hitting full boost from the get-go, or damn near close...

And yeah, i felt like i was bogging at 50mph. Of course ill put more power, but it also depends what RPMs were at and such, his power curve/mph ratio is different than mine, way different...

Lets just say i shut him up for good...
