EGR controls question

EGR controls question
Got a question here about the EGR controls. (exhaust gas recirculation)
If I were to disconnect the electrical plugs for the EGR system, would they revert to an "always open" or "always closed" position. In other words, could I effectively defeat the EGR system altogether simply by disconnecting the solenoid cable connections?
I would like to try and isolate the EGR system to see if an immediate power increase is noticeable. If so, it would lead me to believe that doing a serious cleaning of the EGR system and associated vacuum lines would be a worthwhile effort.
I'm sure I'd get a check engine light and technically that sort of thing would be illegal, but its only for test purposes.
Wondering if anybody else has done something like this on the Max.
I've recently had good luck with a recent MAF cleaning and a knock sensor replacement a few months before that. If a dirty/oily MAF didn't throw a code or trigger the CEL, I'm curious to see what else may be holding me back that isn't otherwise throwing a code or lighting up the CEL.
