help on cleaning engine bay

i need help on cleaning the engine bay on a 98 maxima, i've read up on a couple of tutorials on how to do it but the problem is that using a hose and wetting the engine is quite a nerve wrecking thing to do. on the tutorials, it says to cover up the spark plugs, battery, anything electrical stuff, and the distibutor. does anyone know where the distributor is?

any help/advice would be appreciated. if you had prior experience, let me know

I don't think we have a distibutor since we have coil packs for the plugs. Distibutor is the thing connected to the side with the wires for the plugs (like in Honda's). Someone correct me if I'm wrong

the next time someone actually cleans/hoses the engine, could you take a quick pick of the parts & areas you actually cover before you hit it with the spray & water?

Yeah, we have a distributorless ignition system. Just coil packs and plugs. No distributor, no plug wires.

If you're nerveous, just use a rag and a detailing brush with some degreaser.

When I do my own I don't cover a single thing and just spray away. When I do other peoples engine bays i always take the precautions but I havent had a problem when I detail mine.
