Finally, after (literally) months of searching, I finally got my Max over the weekend. 96 GLE, dark green, loaded to the gills including ABS, winter package, Bose, etc., with only, get this, 35,980 mi. Guy even had the original window sticker handy - good for a laugh (MSRP in '96 was $29,750).

Only problem with it (besides needing new shoes - any suggestions for tires good in snow and on pavement?), in my mind anyway (many may disagree), is that it came with the gold package so even the d@mn door handles are gold. I can handle the emblem, and the trunk letters, but is there any way to get the gold off the handles without ruining the metal or does anyone know how much new/salvaged chrome handles would be?

Been driving around a good bit and have to say I've been missing the boat for far too long - what a great car! I hope to put on front and rear anti-sway bars at some point (hate that butt wobble) and wonder if 97 SE wheels will fit on the 96 (love those spokes...)?

35,980 the car is still a baby. I have a 96 also that just hit 68.000 and I thought that to be good. Good Luck with it.

You got a steal;I've got a 97se with 74,000 miles on it...But I loved every mile of it....Still runs like the day I brought it home...Love my max...On the tires...I dont know what size rim you have, but if it is a 96 it is probably 15's...If you are gonna put 97+ se rims on it they will be 16's....When I bought 16's for my se rims I went with Bridgestone re910 in 225/50/16---LOVE THESE TIRES---Check them out on tirerack....Not so high ...Good Luck....

The winter package, as I understand it, is a dealer add-on package that includes heated seats (that leather gets mighty cold, let me tell ya!) and heated side mirrors.

Cheers..
