Car dies with air filter on....??

Soon as I start the car, idle goes up and just drop downs and dies. I have a CAI so I took out the air filter and it idles fine. Soon as I put the filter back on, the car dies. I replaced the filter with an APC (not K&N which it orginally was) about 2 months ago, worked fine till now. I replaced the MAF, cleaned IACV, cleaned throttle body, and checked the TPS. I don't know why the car shuts off when putting the air filter on? Can anyone help me out?
Thanks...

Sounds like a MAF or IACV but sounds like you went about everything right, I guess I would double double check everything was connected right.

I had this same problems about 3 weeks ago where I would start the car and it would then die. So went to junkyard and bought a MAF, replaced it and it started. After a week or so, my idle would jump around alot and got the EGR code, but the car was still running. So the goal for today was to clean the EGR, took it out, cleaned it, put everything back together and bam, I'm back to square one. So then I started playing around with the filter and got this conclusion, but know the solution

If you're pretty sure it's the filter giving you problems, you might want to try a K&N like it originally was (you can always clean and oil the original filter if it is not damaged)

That's my next step is to buy a K&N filter, anyone know where I can buy one ASAP? I know straus and pep boys don't have it.

I can't see any reason a filter, unless it's clogged so bad air cannot get through it would cause your car to die like that. It doesn't make sense. Something else is being effected by your CAI. The MAF would be your best bet.

I already replaced the MAF from the junkyard. And the funny part is that it was working last week even with my old MAF. I tested the MAF sensor, how do I test the MAF itself?

I feel your pain. Yesterday my Intake system broke off in between the resonator and the MAF (I have a HKS pop charger) and I can't attend work neither until I get it fixed. I might duct tape it or wait until my Frankencar gets here (I ordered it last Tues).

you should be able to go into autzone, pep boys, or advance auto with a part number and have them order. i used to work at advance and we were about to get most k&n from the warehouse next day. we had to order before 5 or close to that. try calling one with a part number and see if they can get it by tomorrow.
