Weight Of Your Maxima?

I am a little Confused? I have 99 Nissan Maxima GLE, and it said on my Registration card the Weight of the Car is 3700. Is that right? Or they made Mistake at MV?

it seems like u have a GLE (options loaded i suppose?) + system so maybe they didn't make a mistake?

certain sites say that 4th gens weigh around 3,000lbs but my max's nys title says that my '98 gle weighs just under 2,900lbs, so which one should i believe? do 4th gens actually vary in weight by that much?(100 or so lbs?)

thats the weight that my car has on the inside of the door on the sticker, i think that that is the weight with a loaded car, passengers and all by some gov. standard.

i went to several car sites and most seemed to agree on 3072lbs, so thats what i go by

Wow, that is really light. Does power leather seats and all those little added accessories really weight that much?

They didn't make a mistake..the weight that the DMV uses is GROSS VEHICLE WEIGHT. This is the weight of the car + the maximum load it can carry. 3700 is about right. 4th gens are right around 3,000 lbs, and they're rated for 5 passengers...so that's about right.

I weigh mine at the track everytime I go.

No spare tire or jack, full interior, stock 15" sawblades, 3-4 gallons of fuel, without me.

3060lbs

I also just thought all 4th generations were 3000 pounds. One day i got to looking around at the info in the door with the vin number and everything and all I saw was this huge figure that said 4273 pounds, and then it broke that down into front and rear. I was like man, my car is unusally fat, I hope this is not true. A 4200 pound 4th Gen !

my '98 has that same exact number on the info sticker on the door with the vin number( i looked on it this morning after reading a post on this thread)...but we all now it cannot be true......right?!?.....but then my NYS dmv title once afgain says either 2898lbs or 2989lbs (but i think the correct weight is the former one)....what is up with this?!?

Now bear with me. I don't know if there is some sort of curved ratio of weight to horsepower. But lets do this rudimentary style ya hear. Just weighed the spare. It's 24 1/2 ibs. So the max has 190HP and weighs 3000. Thats 15.8 Ibs/HP. Now I didn't weigh the jack but lts say five ibs. So with these gone that's 29.5 ibs saved. By this method that is 1.87 HP at flywheel and 1.4 HP Auto/1.57 HP Manual. I have no idea if this is right but its a thought. Makes me wanna leave the girl at home while cruising. But whats cruising without friends.
