Seized Caliper Rebuild
So my dad’s 97 Max with 96k mi (used to be mine before the 99) has a seized rear brake caliper. I took it off the other day and tried to turn the piston in with no luck. So my question is, has anyone ever re-built a rear caliper and could they point me to a good place to get a rebuild kit and/or any information as to what’s involved or how to do it. Is it a good idea to get a used one from a salvage yard? Should I just forget about trying to make an old one work and just get a new one?
If you can't turn the piston (with the correct) tool and get it out of the caliper, you'll have no chance to repair it. If you can get the piston out you can replace the seal(s) and put it back in and it should function properly.
My brother purchased a set of "loaded calipers" for his Sentra from NAPA recently. Not sure what they cost, but they came with everything he would have needed.
