Going to run at the track fully loaded on 8.20. What do you think I'll run?

My buddies really want to go to the track next Wednesday and they're begging me to go. I said I'd go if they'd pay because I hate racing in 90 degree weather only to go slow. Well, they're paying. I'm not even going to bother removing anything or changing my front rims to the stock 15s. Spare and all tools (~20lbs) will be left inside. No icing. No 1/4 tank of gas. I figure it's time to see how much slower my car is in street trim.

My setup will be:

17s (relatively light 42lbs)
MEVI
JWT ECU
Hacked airbox with resonator (first time running with the resonator)
UDP
Y-pipe
2K muffler

Weather:
projected mid 90s thru 6pm, decent humidity (40% rising to 70% at night), 1100' asl

Seeing that the weather is going to be so hot and I'm running fully loaded, I'll be surprised if I get a 14.7@95mph with a higher 2.2 60'. Earlier this year, I ran a 14.45@96.9mph with a 2.22 60' in 85 degree weather, but I was on my 15s, no spare, no tools, and humdity wasn't bad 30%.

In my limited track experience (only about 75+passes), i for some reason run faster when its hot.

My fastest time is a 14.9@90 (something wrong with the radar at the track i believe) w/ a 2.111 60ft on 205-55/16 inch **** tires that i bought the car with. This was in 90+ degree weather. Then i go back on a slightly humid night (85-ish degrees) and cant get better than a 15.4 w/ 2.4-2.5 60fts on my new Yoko AVS ES100s (225-55/16).

Hopefully this will all change when i head back in the fall when its about 70degrees out.

As for you, i'd say anywhere from a 14.7-15.0

I hope better than a 15.0 because I've already run numerous 14.9-15.0@93mph+ in the same kind of weather and without the MEVI or ECU.

dave, i would say 14.7-14.9. the weight combined with the heat will tack on at least .3 for sure if not more.

Nice one, Sally.

........however your ignorant butt could be right. I've got a ton of runs on my 97K stock clutch. It's never slipped, but who knows.

Dave, you know what I ran in full street trim already, but with my heavy 50lb 17" wheel/tire combo I ran a couple 15 flats and a 14.9

This is up from a best 14.6

My guess is 14.8

I predict a 14.9 - 15.0

Earlier this year before my MEVI, with just y-pipe and b-pipe and JWT cone I ran 14.59. Then I went back a few weeks later with the MEVI - 100% humidity, 7x deg. F I would imagine, and I couldn't do better than 15.02

Well, they've changed the forecast on me, instead of 90 for the high, it's going to be around 104 on Wednesday. I'm still going though I figure it will be 102-95 degrees while I'm racing from 6pm-10pm. It was about 105 here today and at 10pm it was still 93 degrees. It hasn't rained in Kansas City for 8 weeks either You guys have no idea how much I hate the sun right now.

Well, we were all wrong.....

Kansas City International Raceway (~1100')
Temps ranged from 102-98 degrees with ~35% humidity, 29.86 baro, very little wind.

Best
60' 2.261
1/8 9.473
MPH 75.51
1/4 14.611
MPH 94.51mph

I ran three lower 14.7s, two 14.8s, and a 14.9. MPH ranged from 93.5-95.0mph with 60 foots ranging from 2.22-2.39. Mods were hacked airbox with resonator, UDP, non-mandrel y-pipe, MEVI (5300rpm switchover), JWT ECU, 2K+ muffler. Runs were on my ASA LS5 17s w/235/45s, tools in the trunk, spare/jack, and a little less than 1/2 on the tank. Pretty much full street trim (loaded SE 5 speed) plus Stage I/II SFCs. Tire psi 32 front and 28 rear.

Hardly anyone was there (~25 cars) so I could make as many runs as I wanted. Even with 30-40 minute cool downs, the motor was screaming hot. This is the first time I've ever run on my 17s which are no heavier than my stock 15s. I got decent 60 foots, but the 17s just make the car feel pretty boggy once the rpms swing past 5000rpms in 1st. That's inertial weight for ya. I made three more runs trying to best my 14.6, but it wasn't going to happen so I left. As the sun went down, the humidity started to climb. My MPHs were pretty sad, but my ETs impressed me. I'm happy.

I hung out with the Mustang crowd for the most part. We took turns running against each other. I beat the 5.0 LX notchback (him 14.9, I beat the 94 GT (him 15.3), and beat the ricey convertible 96 Cobra (him 14.7). AND THEN the big dawgs wanted a piece. Two 2003 SC Cobras preceeded to lay a couple 13.2s@109mph on me and the 120hp-nitroused 2001 Cobra smacked me with a 13.2@112. They couldn't believe I was NA and had many Nissan parts as performance upgrades. Overall, the LS1 F-Bodys were getting mid 13s, the SC Cobras were stuck in the lower 13s, and the nitroused 2001 Cobra was all over the place (12.9-14.7). A couple SVT Focus' were there pulling lower 16s.

Highlight of the night was watching the turbo Hybusa. Some of you may have seen videos of this bike on the net and when it was for sale on EBAY. The Busa was running lower 9s @ 169mph. The guy was completely nuts. He stayed on the gas the entire way even though the back end was all over the place. For those that don't know what a Hybusa is, it's a 1300cc sport bike. The turbo kit looked completely OEM.

BTW, for fun (and if I lived in Cali ) my ET/MPH corrected out to be 14.07@97.96mph. The air alone had a density altitude of 3000' and that's not correcting to sea level, only to 1100' above sea level.

Yep, our newly resurfaced track has finally started to grip. I can't wait until the temps fall into the 60s during the day so the track is hot and the air is cold.

The biggest problem I had last night was when I hit 2nd, the tires would spin really bad, worse than I've ever felt. I almost think there was a little oil on the track about 150' out. I noticed lots of RWD getting pretty loose once they hit that area.

What kind of pressure did you have in your front tires?

I didn't change my tire pressure. My cold psi is 32 front and 28 rear. With the heat, I'd imagine the tires were around 34psi front and 30 psi in the rear.
