ramps are doable as long as you have a lot of light to see up under stock y-pipe...space is limited to remove oxugen sensors and loosen bolts on exh manifold...

look around for some penetrating oil and hit it up liberally before starting any work and let it soak in for several hours...it may be good to plan for a broken bolt or two if torque defeats old rusty bolts...

good luck.

I'd pay a mechanic to do it. It's hard as far as access goes and being on your back is going to make it tough. Also air tools with extensions and u joints help alot . good luck. I'm not being sarcastic. you'll love the mod

Re: Y pipe install...

My friend installed my Y with just ramps. It wasn't the easiest thing in the world but if you have the right tools you can get it done.

I wish I read your thread yesterday before 8am I would have taken pictures. I just installed my Warpspeed Y-pipe on a lift (made life very nice)

Plan on using a breaker bar (for REMOVING the old bolts)
Get a can of penetraiting oil
Wait for for the exhaust system to cool (ouch!)

See if you can get a socket attachment so you can angle the socket (i forget what size, i want to say it was 15mm) when it comes to taking the bolts out from above the pre-cat in your stock y-pipe it can be a b*t*h(this is where i snapped the bolts)

there is a bracket that holds your y-pipe up with two 10mm bolts so dont be scared to unbolt the y-pipe from your exhaust manifold it wont fall on you...

soak your old bolts with penetraiting oil

remove your oxygen sensors

remove the bolts to the exhaust manifold

remove the bracket

drop the old y-pipe

install gaskets on your new y-pipe

and bolt that sucker up in there.

I removed that bracket that holds up the y-pipe because mine touched it ever so gently and it would have rattled, this might be the same case for yours.

thats about the end of it, or atleast that is how I did it. If I skipped something please let me know fellow maxima.org'ers.

Do you mean the hanger bracket?

You are going to have to unbolt it from the hanger/catalytic converter also, but the bracket that i am talking about is in the center of the OEM y-pipe.... it has 2 10mm bolts in it side by side....

i had mine done at a local shop because i'm friends with the people that work there. i helped but am very glad i didn't try at home. took long enough to do in there. bolts were rusted so bad, o2 sensors wouldn't come out so i cut the wires and then reconnected them and used shrink wrap. was overall just a pain in the butt to do and kinda laugh at the fact i would have tried at home with ramps. much easier to work on if you have access to a lift and good tools. goodluck

The bracket hanger after the flex section, how did you get to fit or does it just fit on your aftermarket y-pipe.

Did you buy a new of stainless steel nuts. If yes, where did you get it?
