Can a 90 300Zx non turbo auto, beat a 98 Maxima GLE auto?

Me and my boy just raced, he has a 90 300zx auto non turbo with Full exhaust, I have 98 GLE auto with full exhaust and intake, we both have chrome rims..

We raced 2 times.

In the first race, he Jumped a car on me before I started and I punched it, Then I gained a car and my front bumper was to his back bumper, by that time we slowed down cause the road ended.

So we went again, this time When I jumped I jumped a half a car on him and we took off, I had about 2 Cars on him by the end of the road. It was about a 10-12 second race. Now its known Im pretty sure of, and From my experience, Ill take him in the 1/4 mile, hands down. Now he tells me on the Highway and from what I hear there Nasty when you get to the upper 80's which is probably true cause his 222Horses kick in. But Im actually impressed that I can get him in the 1/4. I thought there 222HP would eat me alive scince IM auto. Didnt turn out like that.

But from anyones else's experience. Is it normal for the auto 4th gen to take an auto 300Zx non turbo 1990?

Thanks guys.

Nick

Maxgtr is correct stock for stock a 95-99 auto will beat a 90-96 auto N/A 300ZX and a manual 95-99 is quicker than a 90-96 300 manual and traps 2mph faster in the 1/4. Remember back in 95 when M. Trend said auto 300TT owners dont got caught sleeping on the 95 5spd Max. The 90-96 300ZX met its match against the Max when the VE was put into the Max and the Max surpassed the N/A 300ZX in straightline performance those years

i had a 1990 300zx n/a for about 3 years before i recked it racing.(RIP)
I now am a proud owner of a 1997 5spd max and the maxima well out performs the 300zx hands down. I'm gald that i bought the maxima.300zx's are slow compared to the maximas.

My neigbhor, Bob has a 300zxTT with a few mods on it(intake and exhaust). Bob and i raced when i got the new maxima stock about 2 months ago and i was surprised that the max stayed up with the 300. On the start off he got about half a car length on me. The cars stayed that way until we hit about 55 and he started to inch away slowly. We had to slow down because we didn't have enough space to race. But there is no doubt in my mind that if i were to get a SC or put a y-pipe,exhaust,hi-flow,or any other mods; I would smoke him like a smoke a j everyday.

yea nick, i think u can take him in the high rpm's now as well. dont forget your mods put u at 220ish hp now and although his made improvement, i think yours were better because we know maxima's own 300z in beginning. You got mods that help your performance at higher end where we are weaker against 300z...
