bees in a can?

i was wondering about the "bees in a can" noise everyone talks about, referring to the stillen y-pipe. when do you hear it?(idle, wot, etc.) and what exactly do bees in a can sound like? im just wondering if the noise im hearing is it or something else. i bought my maxima with the pipe installed so i dont know the difference between stock and the stillen.

Well bees in a can is pretty much a raspy-ness/loud hissing type of a noise. I have a slight hiss, but im gonna wray the Y-pipe up, so i shouldnt be able to hear it anymore...

put some small rocks in an empty soda can and shake.. sounds like that..

usually due to a busted flex section on the Y pipe.

Could be it's not installed tightly or it's rattling against the heat shield.

Did you install it yourself?

Just put my Y-pipe on. I have bees in the can but its coming from the muffler. I straight piped the resonator and love the sound except at WOT. I'm almost positive its the muffler thats making the rice. How many of you have put flows on the max? Whats it sound like?

I think I'm getting this... it just started within the past day or two. It sounds like a metallic buzzing, and only shows up at specific points in the RPM band, like at 2,250 and again around 3,300 or so.

Just wrap it. I had the annoying bees in the can/ old VW Beetle/ rattlesnake type sound and it was almost totally eliminated by wrapping my y-pipe with some headerwrap. I higly recommend it . Even if I have to get a new pipe down the road, to me it's worth it to have my car not sound like its about to strike like a rattler when I step on the gas .

I wrapped form just below the O2 sensors all the way back to where the y-pipe meets the catalytic converter, I did not wrap the cat. I tried to just wrap the flex section, while it helped a little, it does not compare to how much quieter it was when I wrapped the whole pipe.
