Should I start filling my tank with cheap gas?

The gas price is going up.. i've been filling my tank up with "super" and now i'm starting to think i should start filling it up with the "regular" gas (87 oct).. what do you guys think? is it worth it?
i was thinking of doing this until the premium gas price goes down to like $1.60 ~ $1.70 per gallon....

The gas mileage and performance penalties of using 87 octane will not justify the savings at the pump.

Stick with 91 or better.

just shifter at or under 3k until gas prices go back up and do minimal driving. NO RACING!

true.. it's better for my engine but for now, i'm just a poor college student and my wallet is slightly on "empty" whenever i get gas... but i guess it all makes sense for me to put "super".. i'll just have to bite my tongue whenever i feed my baby.. 99 max se...

If one gets the urge to drive hard I suppose some octane booster would help on the next full fillup?

Just drive slower. 87 will reduce the efficiency of the engine and reduce your mileage to the point where you ought to have just filled up with 91/93 in the first place from a cost perspective.

You may have to just drive slower. I only use about $20 worth of fuel per week so thats what I spend. More money for the pockets.

Stick w/ the good stuff (premium) and like every1 said, either change your driving habits or try not to drive as much until prices go down ... here in metro Detroit its $2.00 - $2.10 / gallon for premium but still I'd rather put premium than el cheapo gas in my max

No, it won't. I don't care what your experience was.

Who cares...Nissan recommends 89 or better, preferably 91-92. I don't care what the cost is, I just limit my driving.

Not to repeat what has already been said, curb your driving habits, try to maintain a constant speed under 55 and try to avoid stop & go situations. With my recent mods, its hard not to go fast off the line but you'll notice the gas tank emptying sooner if you dont.

If you're really that worried about it.

(89 + 93)/2=91

Since we have 87, 89 and 93 gas in NYC. My friend told me, he adds $10 worth of 89 and $10 of 93 into his tank everytime he goes to the gas station. With the combination, he's putting an octane of 91 in to his tank. (89 +93)/2=91. Is this ok? I don't know if anyone has done it before. He drives a 95 Lincoln Towncar with 230,000 miles. I know Nissan recommend 91+ for the Maxima. What do you guys think?

Just train yourself to only look at Supers prices, i do, i dont even bother to look at regular gas, ive been putting premium in this car since the day i bought it (december 19, 2001 to be exact ), and i wouldnt ever think of putting anything less. The ~.20 cents you would save isnt gonna really make you go farther. Like they said, just shift under 3K, NO racing and maybe dont drive as much...

Lose some weight on your right foot.

Basically what I mean is that you should try to drive as conservatively as you can. I'm not even going past 2,500rpms and generally in the 1,500-1,700rpm range after I get going..

By the way, mixing octane is merely for the sake of experimenting, I wouldn't bother just to save a couple of bucks...

in addition, lower octane will reduce your engine's life. because there isn't enough octane provided for the engine to burn. stick with 91+ will be the best. pay that extra $5 for sake of your engine, performance, and milage.

Again, please know what you're talking about before posting! Your engine DOES NOT BURN OCTANES!
