Turbo or Air Ride and Rims

i have a 1997 max se 5-speed and i dont know what 2 do i can get a turbo instaled 4 about 3000 cnd in town or i can go out and buy air ride and some 18's for about 3000 cnd so im stuck i wanna have a ride that will stand out and i dont know if i wanna start blowing all my cash on the engine when i could start on cosmetics and not have to spend as much cash, so i dont know what to do.
let me know what u guys think because we all know its not what hondas think its what your peers think

No matter what, your car will stand out. It'll either be the car that's all bling-blingin, or the 4-door that will blow away camaros.

Normally, i say jump on the turbo, but what's your engine like? How's the mileage, abuse, and maintence?

Plus, remember it's a lot easier to jack your rims than your turbo.........

Also keep in mind the problems that come along with a turbo kit. More maintenence and more problems, supercharger kits are more tested:

Turbo for 3000? Seems pretty cheap. Is that including intercooler, blow off valve, turbo timer and gauges? What about the labor?

3000 CDN seems cheap for air ride and 18s too. For 6000 CDN I would do turbo, air ride, and rims.

Just go for a turbo. The maintainance would be a bytch but it would be awesome to know that you could beat almost anything on the road.

Do whatever you feel you will get more out of. Don't make a decision based on other people. Your driving the car correct? Why should anybody elses opinion have any leverage on what you do with your money? If you want to go for looks, I would forget about an air ride and just get rims and some springs and shocks and save some money. Then you can put the leftover $ towards the turbo.

show=rims
mow down others=TUBRO

You should choose what you want and make your maxima yours. Don't go by what others say.

You'd best know the ins and outs of turbo charging, the VQ, and automotive know-how. If you're lacking in any of these, you'll be sorely disappointed in a turbo VQ.

Capital B ull Capital S hit

25 PSI with a turbo on a Maxima would be somewhere of 800 - 900 hp

Um, if you're looking for reliability, air ride isn't the way to go. I promise you'll have more problems with that than you would with a well built turbo setup. Ask thebigsadler sometime. He's had air ride, twice, and now has a turbo. Ask him which he's had more trouble with.

And no way a shop built a turbo setup for a maxima for $4K canadian. What's that, like $2800 US? I could believe it for a cheap no frills kit, even then it's close. But fully built internals on 25 psi? That shop is so full of it it's unbelievable. The kind of equipment, not internals, just turbo parts needed to push 25 psi is very expensive. Can't just slap a turbo on and turn the boost up to 25 psi. I would never take my car to a turbo shop that makes those kinds of claims. It's just not realistic.

If you've got the money, anything is possible.......

The guy could have gone completely custom on the internal parts, cryo'd his tranny, etc.

I dunno. 25 pounds of boost does sound like a whopping load of BS, but i think it's possible.

It is very possible to run 25 psi on a maxima with the right parts and enough money. But not for the $4k canadian this guy is saying it cost. That's the BS flag. It would be closer to say $9-10K US minimum for all the necessary mods. Not including tuning, and some other stuff.

What does 4K CDN transfer into in US dollars?

I know for a while hlh501's turbo kits were on sale for like $3400US.

the other thing is that he said the turbo kit cost $4000 CDN. He didn't say everything togehter cost $4000. The guy could've gotten a turbo kit to create all that boost, had it installed, and just kept the PSI low. Then, after he had the engine work done, cranked the **** out of the turbo.

$4000 Canadian is a little under $3000 US i think.

And even the turbo kit for 25 psi would cost way more than $4000 CDN. Neither PFI's kit nor Hals kit (especially not his) would put out 25 psi in their production version. The wastegate, fuel setups, intercooler, piping, and even the turbo used is not designed for 25 psi. At 25 psi, you're getting into hardcore speed freak territory. To support that kind of boost and power, IC's become $800+, turbos are $1500+, even wastegates are $300-400. It's a 3L V6, not like a WRX or Eclipse where you can see 25 psi on a small turbo without much hassle. Everything in the turbo kit would have to be changed out for more expensive equipment. To really do it, the parts would cost more than $4000 canadian.
