98 V6 stang auto vs 95 max auto

Battle of the stock autos!

so after some boba me, my friend in his RX300, and my other friend in his stang want to get some action after arguing over which car's faster.. so we make the left turn and im next to the RX messing with it. but the stang flys by us at an insane speed. im thinkin ... HMM he wants some! so after duckin and weavin through traffic its me and the stang at a light

we're stopped at the light and i check out the light going the other way.. i shift the good ol' auto to 1st. Our light goes green, and we get clean launches. by the time we're at the end of the intersection, i'm already pulling on him... but i forget to put it in 2nd.. so im redlining for a sec and im like OH ****.. so thenwe keep goin and goin and he nver pulled on me.. idont know by how much i won bc i was trying not to crash and not looking back. im sure i killed him badly though because everyone in the RX had looks of shock on their faces.

now everytime i'm with the friend with the stang he shies away whenever i mention the grocery-getter kill.

i <3 my car!

'98 and older V6 auto stangs are pathetically weak dude. 160hp and not much more torque outta the 3.8L. They do 0-60 in the high 8's.

You should have murdered him.

I thought if you manually shift an auto tranny it will go quicker??

Brake torquing is bad as well, but if you hold the brake and rev to the desired RPMs for a maybe a second or 2 and just let it rip you don't even need to shift. And the car will get close enough to redline, you shouldn't lose too much time. Well I haven't expirenced any serious lose, when it's not totally redlining.

i've read here that if you manually shift its no problem unless you do it ALL the time, which is dumb.. but once in a while wont hurt.

Manual shifting is doing the same thing as auto shifting just at the rpms you decide on but FYI, at the track i consistantly (EVERY TIME) ran better times letting the tranny shift by itself putting the car in drive with O/D off.

Also my friend had an almost stock (intake only) auto 2001 v6 stang and i used to race him all the time in my max when i was stock (i'm auto). I'd DESTROY him every time till about 80 mph, then he' gain till about 100 were we'd be neck and neck, but there limited to 110 i believe he told me so i'd kill him if we kept going but we never did. We had the same hp 190 but stang's lose way more hp being RWD. Now the kid has a fully modded focus (NA) and he wants to race me, i'll post whenever that happens but i think he's gonna get me cause its a stick.

RWD only loses about 2% more through the drivetrain. What does a stock 99+ Mustang V-6 auto dyno at? I don't know...but I'm just wondering.

you could be right..

but manually downshifting in a race could help (from a roll only) by locking in a certain gear and not downshifting and thus losing time.

Now go find a Stang GT and race him. The newer V8's are even pretty weak

I seem to get more torque off the line if I launch with the tranny in 1, and manually shift my auto. It doesn't make a huge difference, and I only do it if I'm racing a car that I think is faster than me (not on civics). It's really up to the driver.

I think he got confused because they are no longer 5.0 they are 4.6, that wasn't an decrease in power there, its just that fords starting to realize that alittle technology can overcome alot of displacement. I've gotten my *** handed to me by 4.6 and 5.0's alike plenty of times.

the newer ones, bullit, mach 1 are quick. I was stock 5spd 3 people in car and i think the other guy had a mach 1 or a bullit. It was 5spd. Firts gear i had a brilliant lauch, had him maybe by a foot, but he killed me in second gear. Even with my current mods.. i'd still lose.
