Maxspeed springs without aftermarket shocks??

would it be safe to run Maxspeed springs with my current stock shocks. I have 92k miles on my 96 and all suspension parts are from the factory except the fstb and rsb. If I do this, do you think it could handle the wintertime?

No. Just wait. Save more money. Do it right the first time.

Even though some people say Maxspeeds aren't that aggressive. They are. Save up for at least GR-2s.

GR-2s are only $260 shipped. They are worth every penny.

If your stock suspension is fine, then the new springs will cause it to wear out fast (you already have 92k miles) and it'll probably cause your struts/shocks to die when winter comes around.

your struts will blow. be sure to save up and do it right as stated above. Also, spend a little more for progress, intrax, or even sprints. Maxspeeds suck *****.

maxspeeds-80 bucks on ebay
progress-160 bucks
intrax-170
hr-200

i had maxspeeds for 3 months until they bounced all around and eventually blew. Do it right and get the shocks/struts changed out with the springs.

i just put in a set of maxspeeds with kyb gr2's down at maximum tuning. i have a 96 with 73000 miles and the ride between stock and this set up is like night and day. i love the way these springs feel. there not too low so the ride is still very comfortable.

Just installed my Maxspeeds with my stock struts on my 98 SE yesterday. I have 93k on the car, bought it with 82k, so no idea if they're original struts (most likely are, all Nissan parts).

So far, absolutely zero complaints about the ride. It's firm but not harsh or bouncy at all. Honestly, it's goddam close to perfect (for my tastes). Had her up to ~125 on the highway last night, the feel was incredible. The roads near me are FAR from perfect... I'll see how my stock struts hold out and let you's know.

And as far as eventually replacing struts and having to do it twice... when you have a lift and all air tools, doing 2 pairs of struts isn't really a big deal, especially when you know exactly how to do the job. I figure maybe some time next year, we'll see how the stock ones hold up. Probably gonna store the car for the coming winter, she's seen enough salt in her lifetime. I'm ashamed I subjected her to it this year.

You have your own lift and air tools?

yeah... definately a nice setup. OK, it's my buddy's engine shop. Best friend I've known since before 1st grade. He opened up his own performance engine shop near home, includes a service bay with lift. I bring beer and mop the floor occasionally, that scores me a key and open lift time any time I need it. Hopefully I can convince him to let me store the Max there this winter. Already storing a family friend's 67 GTO and another friend's 69 Camaro 427. Not to mention his own 6 litre hydroplane race boat. I think there's room... just gotta help him organize. Plus it can be tight back there over the winter... boat and musclecars won't be going anywhere.

Here's a couple shots from my suspension fun... doing these springs was actually a joke. If anyone in the Chicago area needs some help doing springs/struts, lemme know!

What part of Chicago you from? I'm from the north by the brown line

Yep, the salt during winter isn't good My mom's Civic is already starting to rust. Lucky for me that I have mud flaps, atleast it'll block some of the salt I can't store my Max cause I live in an apartment plus it's my only car

I am in the FAR south suburbs, if you're bored and wanna see it on a map, I'm down here in Crete. Engine shop is in neighboring Steger.

Yeah, having places to store cars and spare rides (88 Caravan is my bad weather / party wagon ride) is not a bad thing at all. Probably gonna store the Max at the shop, and my Corvette in grandma's garage this winter. Feeling nice, maybe let my brother put his car in the garage this winter

Yeah, I would say that "paying for labor" is something I've nearly forgotten about. Having a good place to do your own work is easy to get used to!

It'll go away when your post count increases

Wow! That's FAAAAAAAAAAAAR south. I thought you lived in the city since you have Chicago as your location. Never heard of Crete so I know why you put Chicago as your location

You got PM for something

I put Maxspeeds on stock struts

I put my Maxspeeds on stock struts that had 135K on them. Install was $200. The ride was fine for about a month when the struts blew out. The ride was like this on every little bump in the road.

I then put on KYB AGX (another $200 for the install). Nice ride now, though I wish I went with more aggressive springs. Maxspeeds put the ride where it should have been from the factory, so it isn't really a lowered look.

Decide if you want a lowered look before buying the maxspeeds. If so, go with something more aggressive. I'd also wait until you can get the struts. This is not a bad deal for AGX's at ebay

I agree... the look of the Maxspeeds is where the car (at least the SE) should have been from the factory. I think only Maxima owners can tell my car is "lowered."

So far, stock struts are holding up fine... I know they'll go eventually, and when that time comes, I'll drop the cash on some new struts. Despite having it all apart, I wasn't in the mood to drop $300+ on struts this week. Car isn't gonna see much action this winter, so I think I'll be fine til the spring. That's the best time to get mod-fever anyways!
