Hawk makes everything from stock like pads to full race pads which could never be used on the street. Which ones are you talking about?
I'm going to assume you are talking about HPS and these are a good street/autoX pad if you don't mind alot of dust. They stop well but dust a ton.

this is coming right from the description of the product..
High Performance
Hawk Performance HPS compound provides advanced braking characteristics to enhance your driving experience.
This unique compound combines the safety and quality of Aerospace design partnered with the braking technology of motorsports.
Features:
-Extremely low dust
-High friction/torque hot or cold
-Gentle on rotors
-Virtually noise-free
-Much improved braking over OE
-Long extended pad life
they say Extremely Low Dust. Perhaps they fixed that Dusting Issue. lol
I have the hawk HPS but only had them on for about 2 days. so far they seem to be really good. I got them through tirerack.com but go to the GD page and get them through 97maxgurl since she can get it at a discount
I've had my Hawk HPS pads on my car for a few weeks now. I am happy with their performance, and I recommend them. Nealoc187 is right, they do leave a good amount of dust on your wheels. I wash my car pretty frequently. It is pretty dusty here in San Diego, and my car is black, so by the time my wheels show the brake dust my whole car is due for a washing.

heehee...interesting feeling to know many people have the HPS, and I got the HP Plus. Here's the description on the box:
High performance street material PLUS:
*Race worthy for autocross, club & driving school events
*Very high friction/torque hot or cold
*Good rotor wear (More aggresive on rotors and OE pads)
This material was designed for the serious performance street driver. Due to the dramatic friction increase produced by this product to achieve race level braking rotor wear, noise, dust and pad life may be affected.
So here's the difference between HPS (street) and HP Plus (track).
HPS pro:
low dust
no need to warm up rotors
does not eat rotors
quiet
longer usable life
HP Plus Pro:
Max grip when rotors are hot
Does not fade
HPS Cons:
none
HP Plus Cons:
More dust than stock!
rotors must be warm. Every morn, my 1st stop feels like stock...after 3rd stop, they're medium grippy. max grip when i do repeated stops from high speeds (downhill driving is good!) These are probably bad cold weather/rain pads
Noise: not unbearable, but sounds like metal grinding low hum
supposedly not so long lasting pads
chews rotors for breakfast
I would base the decision on how often you drive 9/10. Most street driving shouldn't be higher than 7/10 of your (and your car's) limits. If you're not looking for all out performance, the HPS are great. If you're insane all the time and goto the road course a lot, HP Plus is better. You could even get some EBC Green all around, and use HP Plus for track days. That's actually what you're supposed to do...the HP Plus are track pads.
You might also check out the Axxis Metal Matrix for street pads. However, I have a feeling those need to be warmed up slightly too, so 1st stop be careful.

Great info, Jae. How do the HPS compare with OEM pads? My only reason for
considering OEMs is that on some other cars, such as Hondas, I've seen aftermarket
pads squeal a lot more than OEM coz they didn't have the exact fit shims, etc.
Also, what's the life expectancy of the HPS? I've just gone over 90K on my '98
GXE 5 sp. with the original pads and they're still working fine, but I think the material
gets too hard after that long, and besides it's rare that anyone notices any
gradual degradation, so I'm definitely gonna replace these pads soon.
Thanks again for that comparo.

This's my 1st set of Hawks. I believe the previous owner changed the original pads around 60k...and I'm at 120k right now and all 4 corners are worn.
The question now, is, what pads to use in the rear!? Hawks only come in fronts. Nealoc187, what do u have back there?
